Marty tended to go "turtle ball" even more so in the postseason - a trait one of his tree coaches, Bill Cowher, tended to replicate for much of his career, as well. But Cowher did break that trend in 1995, his first SB run, and, of course, in his 2nd SB run in 2005.

Here's food for thought. Cowher went turtle ball with a lead in the 4th and it worked well because he had one of the league's great power backs. If there is no Jerome Bettis in Pittsburgh, is Cowher trying to play the same game but with less success?

Hey, if you got Bettis it makes sense to salt games away.

and hell, it STILL almost backfired in Indy.

          Yep.

It's about winning (and that's what they get paid to do), it doesn't matter at all.

If the conversation is about total contribution to the game, then I think it's probably a point in his favor that he mentored a bunch of guys.

Nah, he did it long before he acquired Bettis. It was smart.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

              TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

It was a good strategy for the era he coached in.

It does? Well, it's not. It's just non-sequitur business, per usual.

Ummm, not so great in the postseason, as his record illustrates. Until he finally cracked postseason success (2005), he had a losing playoff record.

He did call Bettis his "closer." He talked about having the lead in the 9th and putting your "closer" in to seal the game.

How many playoffs games were we up by 11 and Bettis wasn’t able to salt the game away.

I don’t think we ever had the luxury of a nice lead in the 4th quarter of a playoff game to even try turtle ball.

Do you know what "sequitur" means??? "Shades" are another name for "sunglasses..." Joe Biden is sometimes called "Shades" because he wears sunglasses indoors... You use the term "shades" in your post, referring to coaches... Ergo, IT FOLLOWS (is sequitur... meaning in SEQUENCE...) that you think Joe Biden coaches football in the NFL... He does not...
                          Any other hand-holding you need???

Tomlin definitely does less with more.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?
