It’s easy to see who is better. Instead of debating that, I’ll just try to answer a question often asked when the topic of replacing tomlin cones up.

who you gonna get… well who did the Rams get when they were done with fisher

We have been pretty good with selecting coaches.. but who is to say we would pick the next McVay vs a Josh McDaniel who may look the part but not have that thing we crave?

I'm not sure the relevance? I was speaking in terms of their offensive scheming and approach, and how it has made them successful, (11-5 combined playoff record, and 3 SB appearances in the span of 5 seasons), while both taking over teams that were basically dead in the water with no QBs to speak of.

He was in the league 16 years before the Steelers hired him, already was a coordinator with Cleveland. He was with two teams between his time with the Steelers and his SB team. Hardly a Tomlin disciple or protege.

If Mike Munchak gets another HC job and wins it all, whose tree is he from?

I'm not sure how anyone can tie Arians to a Tomlin coaching tree.

Wasn't Bruce Arians OC when Tomlin won the Super Bowl?? That's pretty deciduous...

Taz, the Miller Analogies Test is used by MENSA for applicants to the Lonely Hearts Club for high IQ people. Supposedly my score in 1962 was UCLA's record. Big phuquing deal but I thought you'd like to know, anyway.

i guess McVey isn’t “cool” so his players actions don’t negatively reflect on him. It’s only attributed to Tomlin

He was a Cowher hire. The coaching tree is based on guys you hire. Tomlin hired Haley and Canada. Call them what you like.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Are you sure this is true?

He was hired the same year Mike Tomlin was hired so it seems unlikely that Cower was the one that hired Ariens.

I get that it would fit your narrative but I'm not sure that it's true.

Edited to add: BC hired him as a position coach, which I guess is what you mean. But he had lots of coaching experience already. Coaching tree conversations are kind of still imo, because you never really know where the root is.

Look at BB. Lots of good coaches got jobs. But most kind of sucked

                              its a silly argument IMO.

and its not like Arians was given a head coaching gig because he was once the ON in Cleveland.

He got the chance because of what he did with Ben in Pittsburgh under Tomlin.

and he was fired/retired from the Steelers so Cowher and Tomlin shouldn’t really get any credit for Arians success.

If Reich doesn’t get cancer Arians may have never been given a shot at being a head coach.

He's from the Schottenheimer tree, period - that's who gave him his first NFL job. Just picking the job he got in the middle of his career as the starting point because it's your favorite team and coach is a little ridiculous.
