And his value is higher now than it will be after sitting on the bench for a year.
100%. A few friends have asked me about Russell Wilson and I'm sort of indifferent about Wilson but I told them that I thought the biggest positive was that it was an indication that the Kenny Pickett thing was over.

I've been pleasantly surprised with Khan over the past two offseasons. He has been aggressive about filling holes in the roster and while he came from within the organization, it gives me some confidence that he was indeed the best guy for the job and not just the continuity hire with an inside track to the job.

If they didn't trade him for the best return, Omar should be fired.

I think the return tells us the league wasn't that interested.

    Steelers aren?t messing around.

Pretty much send a signal that KP has no value and quickly trade him to a place he?ll never play anyway.

KP might be a bigger malcontent than DJ was not dressing to back up Mason last year and then demanding a trade after the Russ signing.

To put it in perspective, we got way more for Chase Claypool.

The Eagles got Kenny Pickett for a proverbial ham sandwich. Perhaps the Eagles will be sending some cheese steaks to the Burg.

    This looks bad for Pickett.

Earliest the team has moved on from a #1 since 1996.

Moving up 22 spots from 4th round to 3rd round, plus 7th rounder. Wow. Is this now the biggest bust in Steelers draft history (may still be Bush)?

Same reason I told you at the time

He's the only guy under contract.

And what did Tomlin say. He's QB1. Same as he was when he was benched for Mason.

And word 4 or 5 in that sentence was BUT.

If you were trying to do more than slam the FO, I think you might have seen that more clearly

And now that they took the big swing like you wanted, you slam the messaging (that was clearly part true part ego massaging).

If you hear Wilson talk, it also sounds like there were lots of high profile players lobbying for him to come. I think Kenny lost the faith of the D and the WRs.

So, if he's a starter it won't be for a while.

And by then he'll have the "he's just a backup" tag on him. So he maybe doesn't even get another chance to start outside of injury. Like Mason.

I think most of us thought that he wasn't the right guy to start over Mason at the end of last season. That's not good for his long term career prospects.
I wouldn't be surprised if Eagles trade him to another team, kind of a weird move by them.

You are missing the point, the team has totally mishandled this player right down to his exit from this report. Pretty embarrassing tbh.

Disturbing, if true ... if I were in KP's shoes, and I'd been promised I would get to compete for the starting job, only to be told, after Russell showed up, "Sorry, Russ is the starter" ... I mean, I'd be pissed, too
Kenny has reason to be frustrated, but the team has to do what they have to do. Change of circumstances changed the plan.

If this were SEPTEMBER and Kenny outplayed Russ but was denied the start THAT would be a lie.

He was told THE TRUTH within DAYS of signing Russ.

I aint villainizing the team for that.

    Check out draft trade charts.

They'll have teams and where they pick.

Not sure how often it's updated

Kovacevic: Pickett trade makes it seem like ... wow, who's at the wheel?

    Kenny Pickett's out.

    And ... uh, wow.

A few minutes ago, the Steelers traded their starting quarterback of the past two seasons, their first-round pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the kid who grew up next door in starring for Pitt, to the Eagles for an exchange of future picks. This follows a tumultuous week at the roster's most important position in which Russell Wilson was signed out of free agency and Mason Rudolph left as a free agent for the Titans.

Leaving all three of the team's 2023 quarterbacks out, including Mitch Trubisky, who left as a free agent for the Bills.
Leaving Wilson all alone in the room.

And you know, if I'm being all-the-way honest, all of this, even the Pickett trade, feels just as surprising ... as it doesn't, given Pickett's outspoken pride about believing in himself as an NFL starter.

But man, I've got questions. I'm sure everyone's got questions, not least of which would be:
    • If anyone associated with the Steelers was even peripherally aware Pickett would want out, why would management not extend Rudolph so much as a single contract offer? If this is the case, seriously, who's at the wheel?

    • Who's next? Justin Fields as a project of sorts? Another older quarterback?

    • Does Pickett really expect he'll have a better shot in Philadelphia than here, with Jalen Hurts entrenched to the extreme with the Eagles?

    • Who deserves the bulk of the blame for turning a recent first-rounder into a late third-rounder and two seventh-rounders?
    • Is Ben Roethlisberger still available?

This isn't intended to be a full column. That'll come later. Just wanted to slap something up here for the time being and for conversation purposes as I'm about to go live with Ramon Foster on our YouTube channel at 4 p.m. Eastern. Feel free to join us:
