Rooney already all but committed to extending him.
Nice to see that the term is 3 years. It suggests that Tomlin wants to stay beyond Ben (unlike Colbert on year to year contracts who I think will retire with the QB).
I think it's probably a good thing not to have the QB, GM, and HC all go at the same time for a team that seems to pride itself on consistency and avoiding dramatic changes.
And while the Steelers have consistently honored coaches contracts, there is nothing that says they can't dump a guy mid contract. Although I don't think that happens here because I think they'll give Tomlin at least a few years to find and work with whoever is the next long term option under center.
It doesn't make it any less painful , but the Steelers loses are to teams that are a combined 15-2. Other than the patriots game (where we now know Ben was probably playing injured) we were a play or two away from getting the win with a second year QB getting his first NFL start and a undrafted third string QB.
I hate the
Wondering if those posters that said a 1 year extension (to a contract with more than a year and a half left on it) wasn't a "vote of confidence" think the current extension is.
Like I've said before (though I think it might be a good thing for him to feel a little more pressure), he knows that with the Rooneys, he's here for as long as he wants to be.

Why not just give him a lifetime contract? Art Rooney II. We have ownership issues and you can't fire that person.
I blame you for not advancing the Steelers. At the rate you are going well win the next super bowl when you in your grave.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***
