It doesn't make it any less painful , but the Steelers loses are to teams that are a combined 15-2. Other than the patriots game (where we now know Ben was probably playing injured) we were a play or two away from getting the win with a second year QB getting his first NFL start and a undrafted third string QB. I hate the

Wondering if those posters that said a 1 year extension (to a contract with more than a year and a half left on it) wasn't a "vote of confidence" think the current extension is.
This is the exact thread I was thinking about but was too lazy to search and link.

What does a Tomlin team look like when they have a QB on a rookie contract?

How does a team like that play when they made it to even with Mason Rudolph?

I think Ben is the main reason for the success of this team, but he's not what he was a decade ago.

Maybe Tomlin fails without Ben. Especially if our next QB is bad.

But if our next QB is good, I'd imagine that he's learned some things coaching one of the best to ever play.
One can also say Dick Lebeau is the main reason.. or Troy P.

Ben was definitely part of the reason we had success. He made plays and was clutch in close games early in his career.

But every time we made a SB we also had a top 3 defense. Defenses that hid our mistakes on offense and produced points.

Who are you referring to? I only post as Joel. Please tell me what Tomlin has done to earn a new contract since 2016? I'll be waiting.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Tomlin can go 0-16 for the next decade and 'Woke' Rooney will still extend him. Absolutely insane to keep extending a guy who's teams implode every year

                Money post.

                Post 70s:
Steelers have been to SBs with and without Ben, with and without Cowher, with with and without Tomlin, with and without Colbert. Three different OCs.

The one constant not named Rooney?

                Dick Lebeau.

40 post Noll seasons 12 we had Lebeau as DC. 4 SuperBowl appearances.

In other words, 1 in every 3 seasons we went to the SB with Lebeau as DC.

                Zero without him.

It is the one and only element I credit Cowher acquiring that was key to his and Tomlins success.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Obviously he has proven to the Rooneys that he has been one of the most successful coaches in the NFL since he took the job. He is known as a strong leader who has earned the respect of those who play for him.

Wow!!! Now the Rooney's need to prove they are "woke." Having one of the most successful franchises in the NFL means nothing. Clear where you are coming from.

Can you name another coach in any sport who's teams underachieve every year, and have had complete meltdowns several years in a row, yet were extended? I'll wait.

No need to wait...it ain't hard.

Pete Carol- just got extended to 2025.
Harbaugh- thought by many to have the most talent in the league.
                                Sean Peyton

Pretty much any long term coach not named Belichick.
