Steelers sing haskins

My point is that a bust is a bust. If Haskins is a bust, he is a bust that did not cost us much just like Paxton. It is low risk for us so it is worth taking a shot.
If Haskin fails he will be labeled a bust period, not just in association with one team.
Conversely, if he becomes a HOFer, it doesn't mean he was a WFT "bust". He won't be a bust at all as long as he is successful.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 06-13-2021, 11:26 PM.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Being cut does not make one a bust of that team. A unsuccessful career despite high expectations makes one a bust. Example?
Johnny Unitas was cut by the Steelers. Is he known as a "Steeler bust?"
He has never been a bust by any definition save for what you see below.

Chase Young is a freak of nature. He is a generational talent. He is also more mature than Haskins. I think Haskins has elite arm talent. But I think he has been highly immature. WFT isn't the place for a kid who needs structure and accountability.Trolls are people too.Comment

Roethlisberger thinks Haskins’ release, throwing motion and mechanics are “some of the prettiest I’ve seen,” and that Haskins “could throw it through a car wash, it wouldn’t get wet.”

I think that's the only question in most people's minds. He was raised since a small child to be a NFL QB. His father brought him up in the game with heavy structure and practice. Meyers gave him the structure he needed as well. When he went to WFT, I would compare it to the first time a college freshman is away from mom and dad. They go a little nuts. He is a young man. He made young immature man decisions. Now, lets see if he learned from his mistakes.

Here he'll compete n see how it shakes out. That's the way it should be. Considering we were fortunate enough to pick him up without giving up any compensation puts us in a win win position. OTA's seem to be going well for Haskins. Short sample size here but so far so good on n off the field. I like Dobbs, doesn't everyone, but if Haskins beats him out we're a better team.Comment

Someone that gets it. You can't blame an org for the decisions Haskins made. He could have been playing for Attila the Hun but it doesn't absolve him from his poor choices. He may have the talent but does he have the mindset of a franchise QB? The Steelers might be the only opportunity he gets to show it. After all, if he fails here, what other team will take a chance besides Belichick?...{but he likes smart guys so not seeing that.}Comment

Ron Rivera admits regrets with Haskins and vows not to make the same mistake this summer. Rivera just gave Haskins the job and didn’t make him work for
it.
"The mistake I made was that my approach was wrong," Rivera told ESPN on Thursday. (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31605828/washington-football-team-open-competition-starting-qb-job)"I should have made as big a competition as possible, and that's on me. I wanted to try and find a guy. I thought [Haskins] was ready to take a step and take every opportunity. I try to build that rapport he needed with his teammates, and that would have been something we may have been able to see sooner and could have done something different, perhaps."

I hope this happens because that would save the Steelers from taking a QB early in the next draft and from what I am reading there isn't a whole lot special about the class next year. And I think they will need the high picks for OL again next season. We'll see.Comment

I agree. I don't think we draft a QB next year. I believe the next starting QB for the Steelers is on the roster. I'm hoping it's Haskins because I know MR is not the long term answer.Trolls are people too.Comment

Haskins will get another opportunity to sew if he does too.Comment

Rivera didn't want the kid; he was forced on him by Snyder. Simple as that. It's very convienient now to be philosophical because the kid is no longer on the team. But Rivera does seem to have them going in the right direction. They too will be looking for their QB of the future soon.Comment

But I think franchises and coaches also have a responsibility to recognize when players aren’t ready.
I don’t think Haskins was ready to be a day 1 starter.Steelers 27

Maybe that is just another example of bad decision making. Why would someone throw a ball through a car wash????"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment
