I don’t like him, what he’s about or his production, but he is basically zero risk and all potential reward.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

I think his issues will be easier to correct after being humbled vs having early success and them getting into serious problems off the field.

Also believe he is from the DC area and may have been too close to home.
And if he can't correct them he's gone after the season at the latest.

                  No risk.

Some people on here act like we traded high draft picks or players to get him.
They are worried because Haskins has some of the best arm talent in the NFL. He is indeed immature but people do grow up especially when faced with being cut. I knew Washington was a bad spot for him because of the culture. The Steelers culture is exactly what Haskins needs to fully develop. When his head and knowledge matches his freakish arm talent, he’s going to be very good.

Let's hope that happens and he stays here (for at least one cheap medium term contract).

yeah.. the amount of hate Haskin’s is getting is weird based on the contract he likely signed. Its extremely low risk on our end.

While I’m not really a fan of OSU quarterbacks due to their lack of success in the NFL, I was really hoping we brought him in since he is on the cheap.

I have no issue with this signing. It is no risk to the team and if Haskins gets his head on straight it could be high payoff. Being placed in a stable organization with strong team leaders and a head coach with strong leadership qualities could be good for him. If he doesn't fall into line then he becomes and another "what coulda been" story in the NFL.

What I do find interesting is this: Isn't this exactly the type of QB who fits what we have seen Matt Canada do in the past??? Ummmmm....
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

It damn sure would have been a lot more fun if I had his kinda cash. I see a young QB from a premier school (if you can call OSU premier...) with lot's of physical ability and maybe, just maybe by putting him into of the most stable franchises in the league - he'll figure out what it means to be an NFL QB and then his natural talents will emerge.

or not, and we haven't lost anything.
The off-field stuff is far less a concern to most people than the game preparation and poor practices. Someone mentioned Roethlisberger was known not to be the greatest in practices but the big difference is that he showed up big in games. Haskins did not.

And others need to please stop with the 'but the coach didn't like him' narrative. The easiest way to turn that around is on Haskins. Practice hard, study, and WIN GAMES. That will get the coach's love.

Again, someone brought up the claim that Cowher and Roethlisberger might not have seen eye to eye early on. But you know what happened. He WON GAMES. Cowher had no other choice but to love the guy.

I feel exactly the same way. He has to realize as a former 1st rounder, this may be his last chance if he doesn’t show better off field decision making, better locker room leadership skills, and most importantly better on field showings. If he’s going to make a change in his football life this is his opportunity, and it could be his last.

Sorry OSU fans, I love their talent when drafting anything but a QB.

While that is the narrative, I do know that the Steelers rarely draft or sign players who are known to be trouble, and that they met with him first. In that way I think it is similar to another OSU alum, Mike Adams. Adams was busted for weed use pre-draft and apparently taken off the Steelers draft board. As the story goes, he drove to Pittsburgh to meet with the FO in order to assure them that he is not a character risk. The Steelers drafted him in the second round.

Aside from the on-field result of Adams, I think that this was the same thing. I would not be surprised if the meeting this week involved no on-field workout. I would think that they sat down with him and got to know the man. They obviously felt comfortable enough with his character and mindset to take the minimal risk to sign him.

The Steelers are not a team like the Raiders, Patriots, Bengals under Marvin Lewis. They do not typically snap up problem children as reclamation projects. If they signed Haskins then I believe they are convinced of his character.
