Please provide a link to sources. Gruden was HC when Haskins was drafted.

I think given the way Haskins was forced on the prior staff by Snyder and Rivera bringing in QB’s from the Panthers is proof Rivera didn’t want him.

I mean.. I can’t blame Rivera for not wanting Haskins. Why would a coach want a QB he didnt draft who isn’t working hard because the owner is in his corner?

Haskins was no more forced on Rivera than Mayfield was forced on Stefanski .... HCs try to make the best with the pieces they have. And Rivera himself said he should have had more competition for the position so bringing another QB in isn't surprising.

Do the Steelers not want MR because they brought Haskins in? Doubtful. They will need two QBs in the very near future, and maybe a third. One may be a backup to the other starting.

He was forced on Gruden and subsequently when Rivera took over, he was initially forced on Rivera. But Rivera obvoiusly has more clout than Gruden and pulled the plug. But make no mistake, initially, this guy was forced on both coaches

as usual, you are full of it.

Haskins was forced on Gruden, yes. but nowhere in the link you posted does it say that Haskins was forced upon Rivera. Rivera simply gave him a chance and didn't like what he saw so he benched him.

Guess I am missing where it says he was forced on Rivera. In fact Rivera gave him the opportunity to show his talents:

“It’s interesting because we went through training camp and gave him every rep with the [first team] in terms of trying to develop him and get him ready to go,” Rivera said. “Through the four games we didn’t see what we were looking for. I made the decision to go forward with Kyle and Alex.”

hmm.. I have to disagree with you on this one.

Rivera made Haskins the starter in camp with no competition. Why?

Why would a coach in his first year automatically give Haskins the starting gig?

How does a kid who “doesn’t know the playbook” start the first 5 games in a new offense? Seems odd doesn’t it?

Maybe Rivera wasn’t forced but it sure seems like he was pressured to automatically give the team to Haskins. How does he get the gig without any camp competition if he is lazy, doesn’t know the playbook and doesn’t work hard?

I lived in Charlotte the whole time Rivera was coached and I never heard any stories of him giving QB’s or any players playing time who were lazy and didn’t even learn the playbook.

This is why I say the FO in WFT deserves a healthy amount of blame. Nothing about this makes any sense IMO.

I should add, nothing about Rivera giving him the start based on performance makes sense. But letting Haskins sink or swim and eventually cutting him makes perfect sense. Rivera wanted to make sure he wouldn’t be pressured by Snyder to play Haskins again.

Haskins wasn’t ready and Rivera admitted he made a mistake just giving Haskins the job without competition. What was the rush though?

Other orgs like Pittsburgh, GB, Pats, etc would sit a kid like Haskins and let him learn. Why the quick leash?

Haskins was so good in limited covid camp that he tricked Rivera and the other coaches into thinking he was the best option at QB? I don’t buy it.

ONE person runs the show in DC and most decisions are forced. It’s been that way since Snyder arrived and it’s not changing until he’s gone.

So Snyder forced them to draft Haskins. Then forced them to cut him.

I wonder if we'll later find that he was so talented that other teams just let him do his thing. Like Tim Couch never had a playbook in high school or college and struggled mightily in the NFL

Very possible he relied on talent alone. However players develop at different rates.

I sure am glad we didn't cut bait on Terry "The Blond Bomber" Bradshaw after a season or 2.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

Snyder forced Kyle Smith and Gruden to draft Haskins.

I think Rivera put his foot down and demanded Haskins cut in order to gain the respect of the locker room.

If Haskins was as lazy as you guys suggested how in the world was he given the starting job in Rivera’s first camp?

Rivera knew if he kept Haskins around he would lose the locker room. Same thing happened with RG3. Teammates despised how RG3 would go over the coaches head to ask Snyder to make changes.

The narrative is Snyder makes all the decisions. Now it was Rivera?
