Sorry OSU fans, I love their talent when drafting anything but a QB.
yeah, I’ve always been skeptical of OSU quarterbacks. But guess what? I was also skeptical of Texas Tech QB’s because they never panned out.

Now I’m not saying Haskin’s is going to be MVP in a year or 2 but I think he has a ton of upside.

also think some are really reading too much into his time in Washington. It didn’t work, now he is here.. I hope Washington made a mistake and we can get him back on track.

Wouldn’t be the first time Washington screwed up their handling of a QB.

When his head and knowledge matches his freakish arm talent, he’s going to be very good.
I do agree, that the culture in that area is bad..lived there for 18 years....we will see in the near future.....

someone refresh my memory. what was the narrative on Bettis when the Rams tossed him?

Who knows if Haskins will work out? But I don't put a lot of stock in 'narratives'. He'll get a fair shot in the best run organization in the NFL. A long-term HC who isn't worried about his job, an Owner who is player friendly and a fan base.......well, ignore the fan base. He will either produce or he won't - but there won't be any excuses after this. I'm pulling for the kid. Would love to find our next 10 year QB since it appears Mason isn't the guy.

Rams thought Lawrence Phillips would be a better fit. I don’t think there were any negatives about Bettis’ work ethic.

He probably came out of college a year to soon. 1st round talent with little risk. Sounds like a good opportunity for the both.

The good part is that if he is then it won't make a difference moving forward. Just dump and run - no, that is not a Najeh Davenport reference.

The Steelers are not the team that spent a first round pick on him, nor are they the team that gave him $14M+ guaranteed.

Someone mentioned looking at Josh Allen's first season compared to Haskins.
OK did that. Allen was pretty awful in his rookie season but there were good signs. His on-target and catchable rates were decent. Some of Haskins rookie stats are comparable. So..hmmm, interesting.
Then Haskins took a step backwards last season (or at best didn't improve). So if you're willing to write off 2020 as a lost cause for him, then maybe there is something there to work with.

I agree with others. I don't think there is any 'plan' with Haskins. At minimum, a camp QB and maybe #3 QB for the season. It's really up to Haskins on whether he will be more than that. I don't expect the Steelers to have much patience developing him like a top 10 drafted QB. Too much pro-ready QB talent coming into the league in the next few years to wait. And especially not wanting to waste good years of defensive talent.

Its much easier to succeed when your coaching staff isn’t playing musical chairs in your second year in the league.

I would think Josh Allen might have taken longer to succeed if he had a whole new coaching staff his second season.

My guess is that few guys will make the kind of turnaround Allen did.

But he's worth the gamble here.

it was a bad idea to throw a party during covid.

but this is why I keep pointing out DeShaun Watson. He threw a party for his restaurants grand opening and invited other teammates and no one was wearing a mask.

The Haskin’s story sounds bad but Tannehill, Mahomes, Denvers QB’s, etc were all cited for breaking covid protocol this year.

I don't care about the party / mask thing at all.

I am worried that WFT used it to get out of their contract with him.

They don't do that if they think the guy has a chance to be anything.

Cutting him wasn't about covid. That was just a way to get out of they guaranteed money. And it wasn't even a lot of money.

They clearly think he's not an NFL player. Or at least not a starter.

But all he has to be is a QB3 on the Steelers for now.
