NOT as a first rounder. I don't take that risk with a first round.

Moreover, I'd rather just go get Teddy Bridgewater for cheap... Ask you friend which one he/she would prefer based on their college careers. If the response is Jackson, don't ever take scouting advice from that person again. LMAO

Talking heads on ESPN believe Alex Smith is a perfect fit for the Steelers. Guy won't turn the ball over, will move the chains, keep games close, and rely on the defense to close out games. With the young Defense emerging, this could very well be a formula for the short term until they can find the next franchise QB. BUT, I think that QB is already on the Steelers roster, .... L Jones.

Browns fans already have Alex Smith in their wish list...their new GM, Dorsey, is familiar with Smith from his KC days...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

The Steelers get to prep for the opponent as well, it isn't a one-way street in that regard.

            Throw to Josh Gordon, or...

Throw to AB--JJSS--MB--Bell, and behind the best OL in the league? Time is running out on him. I think he would leap at a chance with us.

              Jeesh.

Landry has a lot of value tied up in his intricate knowledge of how the Steelers work.

Is Alex Smith that much better than Landry that he's worth the (lots of?) extra money to replace him?

Watching the Saints playoff game fans in Charlotte were bashing Cam and I don't know why. Dude was throwing insane passes and WR's dropped TD's but of course.. it was all his fault.
Fellow Cam fan here. I never get the rap he gets about not being a passer. He has some insane throws, and has thrown Carolina to victory any number of times.
He just happens also to be an incredible rusher (for a QB), very large, and hard to bring down.

Cam's one of those guys that felt was talking about - he gets lumped in with the stereotype of the athletic running QB who can't pass. In his case, that assessment isn't accurate.

Cam's a MUCH BETTER passer, but, much bigger, and slower... as a runner, it's like Bettis vs Barry Sanders.
And he's not in Deshaun Watson's league. Watson's a passer first, runner second. He's more Steve Young/Steve McNair type. When he runs, he's looking to extend the play, but, is VERY capable of running. And significantly better with his decision making than Lamar. And significantly more accurate than Lamar.

Back to MY point, he's similar to Vick in in just about every measurable possible. Size, speed, agility, shiftiness, accuracy, even his narrow-ish frame (though I think Lamar's a little taller than Vick, their weights at this stage are pretty close). Dude, they both even ZIP the ball with a flick of the wrist, not the natural mechanics that you see QB's throw with.

They're the only 2 guys i've seen "flick" a 40 yard passes that seem to never get more than 10 feet off the ground... truly a laser!

It's scary how similar those two are particularly at this stage in their careers (i.e., while in college). You'd rather make both of the beat you PASSING, rather than RUNNING because they're both good at the latter, and not so much at the former.

Like you, I'm a little sensitive to the "compare him to the next black QB because he's black" (see: Deshaun Watson's comp, "Steve Young", above"). I compare a player to the player they PLAY most similar to.

So, tell me who Lamar's closest comp is in YOUR opinion.
Ok, you win... lol. However, I don’t think you are comparing their talent as much as implying Lamar won’t be able to read defenses and will kill coaches due to being lazy or just plain ole dumb.

Vick didn’t kill his career because of his talent. He killed his career because he didn’t want to put in the work and he thought a dog fighting ring was a good idea.

IMO if you give me a a QB with Vicks speed and canon arm and more times than not he will be successful in the NFL if he puts in the work.

So until I hear Lamar is lazy, stubborn and uncoachable I will refuse to believe he is another Mike Vick.

Seriously, Alex Smith isn’t an upgrade over Landry Jones. He has more experience but he isn’t going to do anything Landry can’t do.

I don't think its Cam's football ability that peolpe don't like, I think it's Cam the person or his personality that turns many people off (me included). If, however, you watch him play, you know that he is a top notch QB in this league and has the added benefit of being a good athlete. I like the quarterback, not a fan of the persona.

Cam Newton is a top 5 QB, IMO... I don't understand all of the disrespect either. He is a baller and the only reason Carolina has been on the map the past four or five years. They fired his OC and QB coach, I'm like, whatever! Try getting the dude some weapons, a better OL, and the league protection you afford all the other star QBs. Secondly, Mike Vick was a baller as well! Yeah, I know he was lazy, trifling, and didn't work at his game, that makes what he accomplished all the more impressive.

He was probably the most feared offensive weapon in the league during his time and he was still very young in his career when he got put on the shelf. I hated that he had to go through what he did to grow up and realize the golden opportunity he had.

He has worked hard over the last couple of years to change his persona... the "mean mugging" on the sideline doesn't happen as often these days. He often takes the fine and gives a ball to a kid in the stands after a score... he spends time pregame interacting with fans. He does make an occasional bone-headed comment during interviews, but, he's worked hard to "fix" his portrayal in the media. Saw a really good story on him a year or two ago where his dad pointed out to him how horribly he comes across.
