AB's "dancing" penalty was for what exactly?

A fist pump may be viewed as a simulated sex act. Where in the book is it written that it is not. If some idiot referee decides to give you 15 yards for it, would you think one should abide by it? Putting on a straight mask may be viewed as insulting by some other idiot. Who's to say it wont? Where is it written?

You're justifying a penalty that has no solid basis. As such, there's no real way of avoiding it. Its not a penalty, its rubbish, and inasmuch as it is rubbish, AB is fine acting the way he did. If the definition of penalizable acts is only in the referee's head, its junk and to be ignored; go with the entertainment and eat the penalty.
Look, I'm not saying it's a good rule, but the rule -- and the penalty for it -- are in the books: "Actions that are sexually suggestive or can otherwise be construed as being in poor taste." Yes, it's subjective ... but knowing it's there, I'd think the player would want to refrain from doing what AB did. You don't think he knew that his "twerking" was pushing the boundaries of "sexually suggestive"? Come on.

Never said he doesn't. He sacrifices plenty. But ... if he wants to "twerk" when that "twerking" could cost the team? Heck, yeah, I want him to sacrifice some more. I know I'm old fashioned, but I'd like to see all the players focused on doing what gives the TEAM the greatest chance to succeed. But that's probably not realistic in today's NFL.

Antonio Brown confirms he was told to change shoes or stay in the locker room
Posted by Zac Jackson on September 27, 2016, 11:05 PM EDT

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown changed out of his yellow and blue shoes at halftime of last weeks loss to the Eagles, but not by choice.

On his weekly Pittsburgh radio show Tuesday night, Brown confirmed that game officials gave him a choice: Change his shoes or stay in the locker room.

That was first reported by Mark Kaboly of DKPittsburghSports.com.

Brown changed his shoes for the second half. His yellow and blue shoes were an NFL uniform violation.

When Brown was fined for his blue shoes and his touchdown dance in the season opener, he said the fines were “nothing to a boss.” But the boss wanted to keep playing, so he changed his shoes last Sunday.

He can expect another fine this week.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I sense that maybe AB is becoming more and more focused on AB then he used to be. Penalties here, penalties there ... it's really not his call whether the penalty is unimportant enough to ignore.

I have become disappointed in the coaching staff not telling him to stop doing things that can hurt the team. "Player's coach" - if that's what that means, I'm not in favor of that when penalties are the result.

I do remember fondly when Cowher basically hooked a defender by the nostrils after he pranced down the sidelines following an interception and said, "We don't do that here in Pittsburgh, son". (Anthony Smith?).

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

One week later, Emmanuel Sanders twerks it up after a TD catch .... no penalty.

It was Anthony Smith who was showboating, but it was Dick LeBeau who chewed him out for it, not Cowher.

And AB's choice of shoe color results only in fines, not penalties. I don't care if that's how he wants to spend his money.

I also saw a player (don't recall who it was) in the Red Zone Channel TD montage this week do AB's patented (but seemingly painful) TD celebration of jumping onto the goalpost at full speed and bearhugging it.

You totally missed the point. Doesn't really matter what the fans think of the action. Some hate it, others thought it was hilarious. But it's an arbitrary rule that appears to be applied subjectively. One ref called 15, another saw essentially the same celebration and left the flag in his pocket. Who decides how much is too much? Obliviously AB can ensure he doesn't get a penalty by doing nothing but it's yet another area where the NFL has over-legislated and left too much up to personal interpretation.

Yup. So - do nothing to hurt the team. Work on the unfairness of the situation in other ways if you wish. Get fined all you want for funny shoe colors ... Just make sure there's no risk of penalty that could hurt the team.

                      Don't f* with the team ... It's pretty clear-cut, isn't it?

Wise and well-stated. Play well and stay within the rules for the best interests of the team, and save the other "entertainments" for Dancing with the Stars.

That is not a penalty, it seemed like the refs where waiting to flag him for anything.
