Agreed on at least that point, but we probably draw opposite conclusions from it. Best way to avoid arbitrary penalties is not to dance around like a clown in the first place. But that will never happen so we can look forward to more of this in the future.

The NFL has allowed a lot of arbitrariness to sneak into the game over the years. Tuck rule, "football move", leading with the head, etc. I hate all of it. If we could get rid of all this stuff, including instant replay, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Watching sports these days is like watching Law and Order with all the constant challenges and over-reffing.

you want the best WR in the NFL to act like a white guy who retired? ok

TO was a cancer, AB is the hardest working man in football and ran wind sprints during every time out or stop in play in the preseason..

but he needs to be more like Heath?

Let's not turn this into a race thing. Nobody is questioning his work ethic either and we all love the way he plays. Some of us could simply do without the showboating. Others like it for whatever reason.

well then tell this board to stop wishing black players act like Heath.

          It's insulting.

Heath didn't feel the need to make an ass out of himself after every big play. He was a consummate professional, and that is why he is used as the counter-example to showboating.

AB unquestionably has an amazing work ethic. Between AB, James Harrison and Ike Taylor, if I was going to say that anybody needed to train harder, I'd pick one of those 3 guys. If I say that Matakevich needs to hit the weight room like Harrison, is that insulting? Or that Jesse James could use an offseason of speed training with Ike Taylor, Tom Shaw, et al, is that insulting? Or if I simply say I wish that Coates trained like AB?

AB and his showboating has perturbed me over the years. I thought this was kind of dumb, but did not find it particularly egregious, particularly since it had little impact on the game.

              the key word is "ACT"

no one needs to act like anyone else... especially after scoring a TD.

99.9% of AB's celebrations have no impact on the game.

              I repeat.. the GAME!!!

              It's entertainment.

Different strokes for different folks. Those of us who see these celebrations as poor sportsmanship or just plain clownish are not suddenly going to find it entertaining. Those who enjoy it and see it as joyful celebration aren't going to suddenly see it as embarrassing or childish. The only thing we can all agree on is hoping AB continues to play like a beast and help us win games.

I'm thinking Snoop Dog liked it (very cool that he is a Steeler fanatic).

We're watching possibly the greatest QB - WR combo in the history of the team (apologies to Bradshaw and Swann/Stallworth) and arguing over a 3 second celebration. Times change. Not everyone will hand the ball to the ref. And that's ok. Sit back, have a cocktail, and watch Ben and AB destroy the competition. It's glorious!!!

                          basically.

and if everyone handed the ball to the ref eventually people would start to complain about HOW they handed it to the ref.

I can't argue with any of that. Although I'd prefer he tone it down a little, I still enjoy the hell out of everything AB does. The guy is infectious. The front-flip, goal post hug and Browns-face-kick were classics that will be replayed forever. Not only is he the best receiver in the game, it feels like he actually enjoys the game and life more than anyone else.

AB and Ben deserve a ring together.

I just worry when guys get a little too "me, me, me" ala Sanstonio, TO, etc.. It doesn't look like AB will go down those roads.

STs coach Danny Smith was not happy with AB's celebration "show":

But hey, I guess he's just an old fuddy-duddy who needs to learn to shut up and enjoy the ride.

Of course Danny Smith was upset, he knew his coverage unit was going to have to actually cover a kick return. Let's face it, the era of the touchback has been the most comfortable for Danny Smith over his career.
