Antonio Brown: Excessive celebration fine shouldn’t be more than head shot
Posted by Josh Alper on October 7, 2016, 2:39 PM EDT

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown tried to follow the two-pump rule against the Chiefs last Sunday night, but the NFL still took issue with his post-touchdown dance moves.

Brown was flagged for excessive celebration during the game and fined $24,309 by the league this week for his second offense of the season. Brown said that the second fine wouldn’t deter him from showing off his dance moves — “The plan is to continue to win and continue to have fun” — but he did take issue with the league’s decision to penalize those moves more harshly than blows to the head.

“We need more clarification in regards to what we can and can’t do,” Brown said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I don’t think excessive celebrating should cost more than guys hitting other guys in the helmet. Twenty-four thousand for a guy scoring a touchdown and having fun [is more] than hitting a guy in the head and targeting with the helmet. There should be some differentiation and clarification in what we can do.”

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin also asked for further clarification on the rules from the league this week and NFL senior vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said the league will be providing a video to teams to do that. Of course, as suggested to Brown on Friday by a reporter, he could also just flip the ball to an official after a touchdown. Brown said he’s going to do what he wants, though, and the play of the Jets secondary so far this year should give him a chance to get fined a third time after Sunday’s game.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

im sure the makers of viagra, cialis etc. pay a hefty 'fine' for running their ad during the game.

The point is the penalty and fine is for something the NFL claims to be sexually suggestive and then they run ads in promotion for products specifically for sex.

It's the degree of vulgarity. Humping air is relatively lewd. Discussing medical products for ED is not. Or at least the commercials are not. Maybe if they showed a guy popping a pill and humping something all "Yeah!" then they would be.

Really? Explain the cheerleaders and the halftime shows?

The do’s and don’ts of NFL celebrations

The NFL’s coaches and players want guidance regarding what can and can’t be done when celebrating. In his weekly media video, NFL senior V.P. of officiating Dean Blandino attempts to clear things up.

Here’s what’s allowed: (1) dancing that is not sexually suggestive; (2) celebrations with teammates that are not choreographed; (3) spiking the ball, as long as it’s not directed at an opponent; (4) spinning the ball, as long as it’s not directed to an opponent; (5) bowing to the crowd; (6) saluting; (7) going to the ground in prayer; ( the “Lambeau Leap”; and (9) handing the ball to the official.

Here’s what isn’t permitted: (1) anything that mimics a violent act, including slashing the throat, shooting guns, and shooting arrows, whether directed at an opponent or not; (2) sexually suggestive dancing; (2) choreographed celebrations; (3) excessive celebrations; (4) prolonged celebrations; (5) spiking or spinning the ball at an opponent; (6) going to the ground; (7) using the ball as a prop; and ( using any other props.

When it comes to sexually suggestive dancing, the NFL will apply the “know it when you see it” rule.

“If it looks like it, it probably is, and we’re trying to give our officials some consistent guidelines,” Blandino said in the video. So, basically, it’s not a matter of two pumps or three pumps. Any pumps should result in a penalty.

As to choreographed celebrations, Blandino explained that the goal is to avoid efforts by players to come up with bigger and better ways to celebrate.

“Believe me, if we let this go, it will continue to grow and certain players will continue to try to outdo each other, and then it leads to other things. Players stomping on logos, and players hitting those players stomping on logos,” Blandino said.

The rules have been on the books for years. In 2016, it has become a point of emphasis, a fancy label acknowledging that the officials haven’t been enforcing the rules properly. Blandino explained that the fouls will increase at first, and that players and coaches then will adjust.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

And yet, that does little to explain why AB has to pay more for a TD celebration than other players have to pay for illegal helmet-to-helmet hits...

Or why Aaron Rodgers can do his double 6-gun routine and not get a penalty.

If he is doing a double six gun shouldn't that be two penalties?

Genius! That is why AB's penalties are so high ... four pumps, four penalties!

Wrong... AB only celebrates like crazy when he has a long TD or makes an incredible catch. It's been 4 or 5 years. He's flipped, hugged FG post, jumped in the stands, ran backwards for the last 20 yards into the end zone... to name a few.

Next time his adrenaline is up when he scores, he will do something crazy.
