its baffling.. and the fact that we did it as soon as Haley left and was on the other sideline but never again since then tells me its pettiness

A 2015 Yale research paper stated that QB sneak attempts are worth nearly twice as much as non-sneaks by a metric called estimated points added.

Universally, these studies give QB sneaks a success rate between 70 and 90 percent. Nothing else in football has a 70 to 90 percent success rate! In this sport, that’s as close to a sure thing as you can get.

On third or fourth down with a yard or less to go since 2015, teams have called an inside zone (a run up the middle with no pulling lineman or lead blockers) 1,193 times. It’s outside counterpart is a distant second with only 294 attempts. QB sneak ranks third with 266.

Despite being the most commonly run, the inside zone ranks as the second worst play call in terms of first down conversion rate at 68 percent, narrowly edging out the outside zone at 66 percent. By comparison, the QB sneak has a conversion rate of about 88 percent, 20 percentage points better than the inside zone, and 15 percentage points better than the closest play call to a running back.

What’s more, the QB sneak is not an acquired skill, and doesn’t require a particularly athletic quarterback. Since 2015, Blake Bortles, Nick Foles, Drew Brees, and Josh Allen have all boasted perfect conversion rates (Brees has the most successes, 23-of-23). Carson Wentz, Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan have each failed only once, and no quarterback had a conversion rate lower than the inside zone’s 68 percent.

And to think the best Fichtner could argue against the sneak was "if the RB can't get one yard, then we don't deserve it"....

The thing about the sneak is that it doesnt even need to be called by the OC, the QB can call his own number.

I’m pretty sure Brady does this most times and this is why its so successful.

Only he and the center move half the time which keeps the DO from getting penetration.

and then you have the Steelers offense waiting until the clock is at 0 and making sure the defense has maximum time to prepare for the slow motion RUTM. I could see if we had Bettis and we were imposing our will on the D but nah, we are just bad at this.

Exactly right, thats why i dont buy that our coaches wont use the sneak, this is something Ben doesnt want to do for whatever reason.

I've said this before. I don't mind terribly if you want to prevent your QB from getting earholed that you don't run the sneak. The problem is when you NEVER run the sneak. If you take a weapon out of your arsenal and the defense knows it, you're giving them an advantage - and for no reason. If Ben does 3 sneaks a year - it would keep the defense honest.

But to never run it? that's just arrogant.....and stupid.

Even never running it wouldn't be so bad if we could actually get a yard or two in short yardage situations.

Hoping that a new center helps with this.

when asked about QB sneaks one time Ben responded that he asked Tomlin if he could run a QB draw or the RPO and Tomlin told him no..

not sure why that was the response to the QB sneak. I know exactly why Tomlin doesn’t want Ben to run a QB draw.

but it was odd that he responded with a play that wasn’t a QB sneak.

I think its obvious Ben doesn’t like QB sneaks for some reason.

So you are saying Roethlisberger is lying when he says:

"I have asked for it. I am fine with it. If they want to call it, I'm all for it.........."It's been a while since we've run the quarterback sneak," Roethlisberger said in the postgame news conference. "I'm for it, but it's kinda over my head why we don't do it. I'm not going to second guess why we don't run the quarterback sneak. I don't know."

Yes because he could call a sneak himself, im sure Ben has that freedom in the offense.

The coaches are probably just saving it for unsuspecting play in the super bowl.
They are just setting it up.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?
