    QB Sneak

Mahomes injured on QB sneak. It appears to be serious.

It seems the Steelers coaches were correct for not allowing Ben to attempt QB sneaks over the years.

very unfortunate, I've seen Tom Brady QB sneak numerous times without ever getting injured.

The risk is always there for any number of injuries to happen to QB's on sneaks.

I wonder if anyone has ever broken it down statistically. I would guess a QB is more apt to be injured when he drops back to pass or when he does a regular running play than he is on a sneak, but that's only a guess.

You are probably right. At least QBs are better protected in the pocket these days. Defenders can barely touch QBs. QBS are fair game on sneaks.

Would you want to be the coach that had your QB injured on a sneak
Even if the odds were 1 in 2000?

Just so he can blow a tendon throwing a pass, injury happens if it’s not one it’s something else.

My guess is that the risk isn't that high.

But, the downside of losing your QB is so bad that I tend to think they should be reserved for playoff games or critical times in the regular season.

my guess is that when you walk onto the field with 300 pound dudes throwing themselves all around you, the chances of getting hurt on ANY given play is pretty decent. But, that's just me.

Yeah, I agree with this. Let's watch going forward how many teams the rest of the season do QB sneaks. Brady does them often. He did two last week.

The risk is definitely there, is it the right call not to sneak? I don't know we lost two QBs to injury anyway.

Injuries can happen on any play. The QB sneak isnt a high risk play for injury IMO.

Mahomes also injured his ankle earlier this year when his own player stepped on his ankle.

                            It’s football folks.

I’ll take the risk of a QB sneak injury any day of the week.

How many times has Ben sneaked over the years? How many injuries?

In the last 10 years how many QB’s have been injured on sneaks?

                            C’mon folks.

                              Things I'd like to know:
                              - 4th and short success rates of: QB sneak, FB dive, HB dive, short pass
                              - Rate of injuries for QB sneaks
                              - Severity of injuries for QB sneaks

Then, is the presumably increased success rate of QB sneak worth the potential injury / severity to QBs.

This is also the kind of decision where coaches might get fired if the QB gets hurt. I'm sure there are lots of hates on Chief's sites furiously typing about how they risked the franchise on a first down in a game in October that ultimately has little meaning for the team.
