His leaving Pitt was a career ender that alot of us saw coming. Im just amazed at how quickly he fell off the cliff after he left.Last edited by Ernie; 05-28-2023, 05:34 AM.Comment

The interesting thing about the argument for Bell sitting out a year and then subsequently leaving... it was "All about guaranteed money". I cant imagine Bell came out ahead though... only taking home approx half of the 54 mill of his contract. He was guaranteed more in the first two years of his Pitt contract...

Le'Veon Bell makes shocking admission about Steelers career
5/26/23
Retired two-time All-Pro RB Le'Veon Bell made a stunning admission about his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday morning, while also admitting he would like to retire with the team and get a couple of carries in a preseason game.
Let's start with that admission.
During an appearance on the "Steel Here" podcast Friday morning, Bell admitted that he used to smoke weed before Steelers games.
Here is an excerpt of what he said on that subject (via Steelers Depot):
"I got a misconception about me with the whole weed thing. Regardless, I was wrong. Just because man, like I shouldn't have smoke in the car regardless. But looking back on it, that's what I did. When I was playing football, I smoked bro. Even before the games, I smoked. And I'll go out there and run for 150, two touchdowns."
The NFL had a strict marijuana policy during Bell's time with the Steelers, but he said it was very easy to get around that because once you passed one test early in the season the league never tested players again for it.
Despite that, Bell was still hit with a four-game suspension (later reduced to three games) for violating the league's substance abuse policy at the start of the 2016 season.
Along with that admission, Bell also said that he would like to retire as a member of the Steelers and even get a couple of carries in a preseason game to show what he can still do.
I never officially retired. The day when I do retire, it is going to be with Pittsburgh. Before I do that, I may be like, hey, let me get a couple of carries in the preseason so I can show y'all something.
Bell was drafted by the Steelers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft and spent five years playing for the team. He was one of the NFL's best and most versatile running backs during that time, earning three Pro Bowl nods, but his career with the team ended at the start of the 2018 season when he sat out the year because he refused to play on the franchise tag. He became an unrestricted free agent after that and signed a lucrative deal with the New York Jets, but his career was never the same as it was with the Steelers.

It did for Bell; and if you watched the offense closely, you'd see it. I did. But I don't think that's true for every runningback. Each case should be judged individually.Comment

I wasn't surprised at all at him going off a cliff. Because he was a by-product of Ben and Antonio Brown. Our passing game was so lethal that you didn't want to stack the box against him. I knew he wasn't all that. And after he left, Connor came in and became a pro bowl runningback.
He was an elite player.
But he's a RB.
RBs have very short careers in today's NFL.
And few guys get the workload that Bell had.Comment

Don't tell me; Tell Feltdizz..he was the one who said that when he was going to the Jets, that Bell would prove he's one of the best RB in the NFL.Comment

He wasn't wise enough to understand the difference.
Nor was he wise enough to understand that his career aligned perfectly with the decline of the bell cow RB... There was a point where Adrian Peterson was like $20M per and the next guy (Shady McCoy) was making like $10M because everyone in between had been cut for consuming too much cap.
Get as much as you can get, but you also have to understand when the market is collapsing and you're putting yourself in a bad position.
He needed to talk to Franco and Bettis about what life's like after being that guy in Pittsburgh for a decade.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Guaranteed money is only *guaranteed* if it's a true SB. Roster bonuses and such aren't exactly guaranteed if you're cut before that date.

Story is, Bettis almost left and went to Washington... dare I say, he doesn't make the HOF if he leaves - nor does he have the continued love like he's got around these parts...
I've only seen 2 guys leave and keep getting love - Rod Woodson (who spent nearly a decade in B&G so it makes sense). The other (Kevin Greene) is an anomaly - i never understood why he continuously gets love.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment
