How many drug tests has Gurley failed?

Yup. Gurley is a better RB than Bell. He's got better speed. Bell has the better receiving skills though.

Todd Gurley’s deal makes sense, given the running back market

Posted by Mike Florio on July 24, 2018, 2:40 PM EDT

When Rams running back Todd Gurley recently visited the #PFTPM podcast, he seemed to be more than willing (or maybe just regular willing) to wait his turn for a new contract. His turn unexpectedly came quickly.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the deal was negotiated over the past week or so. In the end, the Rams made Gurley an offer that it would have been difficult for him to refuse.

While the details still aren’t known (we’re efforting), the guts of the contract permit a basic level of analysis. The four-year, $60 million extension, when coupled with the money Gurley was due to make over the next two years, puts him under contract for six years, at a total value of $71.949 million. That’s a total average of $11.99 million over all six years, giving him the most valuable multi-year running back deal in the NFL, by far.

He’ll hold that title until Le'Veon Bell signs his new deal next year. And, in theory, Gurley could have waited for Bell to set a new bar next year. But Gurley was due to make only $2.3 million this year. That will now change, dramatically.

Given that the Rams could have tagged Gurley in 2020 (the tender would have been at least $11.556 million) and 2021 (at least $13.86 million), Gurley swapped a four-year, year-to-year total of $37.3 million for six years and nearly $72 million.

Even if a large chunk of the $45 million in guarantees is guaranteed for injury only (and that’s definitely the case), he has protect against a catastrophic injury — and he plays a position where injuries of that kind occur.

So even without the full details, it looks like a win-win. Especially since Gurley plays a position where most quality players inevitable lose financially.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Even with this deal making gurley highest paid by far....If bell signed his offer he would still be the highest paid in the NFL, by far.

That average is taking the remaining 2 years on his rookie deal into account. In terms of new money, he got $60M more dollars for an extra 4 years after his current contract expires. For those 4 seasons, his average salary will be $15M

I think it's interesting that they did it 2 years early.

I think that suggests that they think that the RB market is going to accelerate quickly and they didn't want to end up paying even more in 2 years.

If they didn't expect that, I think it would have made more sense to get another cheap year or two on the rookie contract before a long term extension next year. To minimize his cap hit over his most productive years, they could have also done what the Steelers did and ride out the whole rookie contract and then tag him for 2 years.

Gurley would end up being a year older than Bell at the end of the 2nd tag because 1st round pick (6 year contract) to Bell's second round pick (5 year contract).

Tried to tell some of you the RB market was about to get corrected with these new RB’s.

The Rams know Bell is about to get PAID if he stays healthy and they didn’t want to follow his contract.

                    Smart move by the Rams.

yeah, but if Gurley feels under paid at any point in the next 2-3 years, he will do a Julio Jones. LOL. Julio crying right now and he has 3 years remaining on his contract. Just because someone else gets paid, then you don't like your contract? Please.

That's the argument for taking 1 year deals. That way your always getting the cap appreciation in you contract. The downside is obviously injury risk
