Had the Patriots just re-signed their existing LS when they drafted the guy in the 5th round? If Warren had retired, no problem, but the Steelers went out of their way to sign Warren and then used a pick for a 2nd LS. I don't think the roster size and game day actives really allow for teams to carry a backup LS on the team. Interesting times, we'll all get to see what happens.

First off, that Joe Cordona example is a great one I forgot. No one complained when they not only used a 5th rounder on him, but they also traded away a young DB to Green Bay and their 7th rounder to get that extra 5th rounder to take Cordona...but their fans didn't whine of B!tch. Want another example that I thought of while reading this thread again.

We as Steeler fans certainly know our division rivals right ? Well I remember back in 2003, the Browns in what would be the 4th round today ( Early 5th in 2003 )...didn't then select a Pure LS too ?...Ryan Pontbriand ? And what did he do ?..well first, he shared a roster spot for 3 years along with the Browns other LS who started..but who was getting older. Then in 2005 not only did Pontbriand become their only starter at LS...but he also went on to what....3 NFL All-Pro teams and Pro Bowls! And he was taken in round 4 basically.

Now..was that too a WASTED draft pick ??? People please, get over yourselves. This guy we took was easily the consensus BEST LS available. And IF we would have waited til round 7...he very well could have been gone. And..even if he wouldn't...who's to say he would have signed with us as a undrafted free agent ? The Bottom line is we SECURED his rights by taking him in the very late 6th round. And it very clearly WAS the right decision.

One of my buds is a strength n conditioning coach at Indiana State U where Josh Appel who was their long snapper and just signed a free agent contract with the Lions n was hopeful to get drafted however they did not believe he would get drafted even though he was ranked right at the top for long snappers. After we drafted this kid I had to talk to my bud and he didn't believe Appel would get drafted cause it mostly don't happen.
That said so to me I would have waited and signed a long snapper as a free agent. We can't like every move our team makes!

It's amazing. Despite him being one of the most transparent, jovial and convivial head coaches in the league (and also the de facto GM), there are still Pats fans that find fault with Belichick's draft selections.

My source in Utah says this guy is bow-legged, with huge hands, and very loose wrists. Prototype LS.

Got to be out of your mind using any draft pick on a long snapsman. Magoo-ville. This is absurd. Some drunken bet gone wrong. There wasn't one CB or linebacker worth a chance? How hard is it to find a fat white guy who can hike a football, stand up, and get in the way for 3 seconds? Do that maybe 4-7 times a game?

with a bunch of young players needing an extension in the next year or so, don't discount the savings in salary cap from paying a vested vet like warren vs. someone on their rookie 6th Rd contract

Also 3rd rd rookie contract vs DW contract.

Might not seem like much but every little count when ur up against the cap
