I’m gonna have to go back and rewatch. I think he implied Mason is the guy. I think we have to piece together the Tomlin words but they were there. And he’s very deliberate. Just has to protect KPs ego for now because Mason is FA.

Unless he thinks Mitch is the guy but Im pretty sure that would not be possible.

It’s just that Tomlin wasn’t explicit but said the guy is on the team.

And it’s not likely to be a fair competition because I think KP will be the better preseason and Latrobe QB.

We aren’t going to dump Kenny after 4 games with Mason. I think its Kenny’s job to lose next camp.

I think you've got it backwards -- he acknowledged that the '24 starting QB is already on the team, and hopes that Mason can come back to provide competition. He also said Kenny is #1 starting in the offseason.

This was always the plan, Mason just gummed up the works by playing like a competent QB and outshining the prized #1 pick. Now they're prepared to torpedo another season before it begins.

This is what I mean when I say folks keep confusing Kenny with Mitch.

I seriously doubt we lose 3 straight or finish worse than 10-7 if Kenny stayed upright the rest of last season.

No guarantee Kenny wins those games, it's not like they were all 7-6 or 10-9. The D got shredded in each, Kenny would have been forced to pass more.

I think Kenny will start camp as QB1 on the depth chart. Just like he ended that way this season.

I think they want him to succeed.

But I think Tomlin"s comments about it being a big year for Kenny are really important. Especially after hearing them instead of reading them.

That and the "certainly" when talking about competition.

I think he's doing a dance between trying to keep Kenny engaged and trying to convince Mason he has a shot if he stays here.

And in truth, I don't think we necessarily know who is better. I think it's Mason (right now at least). But it's only a few games.

All I know when Kenny/ Mitch quarterbacked this offense it was painful to watch. When Mason was inserted things began to happen. back to back 30+ point wins, a great win (18/20 passing) in a monsoon in Baltimore and a gritty 2nd half performance against the Bills.

Maybe a new OC brings out the best in Pickett, only time will tell.
