Rooney does not decide such things. Perhaps I am over estimating the intelligence and wisdom of Mike Tomlin. He does not comment on the situation and really has not said much about the running back position. I suspect he will say more and reveal most of his cards after the 2nd preseason game.
Pre Season: Bills @ Steelers..What are you looking to see in this game?

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. *** -
Good post, but the Steeler usually keep six WR's. Out return kick return spot is a weakness especially the punt return role if Gunner doesn't have his confidence back. For those thinking that Najee might not be starting day one, look for him to play longer than the other starters. If he leaves when the starters do it is because they know who he is, and that is RB1. If he stays out longer then it would be because the staff wants a longer look, which would mean there could be question marks.
I disagree that this game is any kind of step up in competition. The Bills aren't doing anything innovative with Allen, they know who he is. Like the Steelers, the Bills will be focusing on their question marks.
I'll be looking to see if Anderson gets some early snaps at C. If so, it indicates that Green is on his last legs (no kidding!)
I want to see the rotation at ILB. Kwon has shaken things up a bit since arriving, and may have the inside track to start.
The two Edge starters are set. Who is up next between Herbig, Golden, and Roche?
I can see some young linemen stepping up between Leal, Benton (if available), and Milk. Then there are the vets in Adams, Fehoko, and Watts. I'd like to see all three young guys make it.
I think Gentry could be battling for his life. On a one year deal, but cheap to keep and cheap to cut. If he can't stay ahead of Big Wash, where does he get snaps?
#5 WR - I'd say the top 4 are set after the CA3 67 yard TD last week. I can see a lot of Boykin, White, Gunner, and Hakeem fighting over one spot.
https://www.steelers.com/team/players-roster/gunner-olszewski/careerHis 12.0 yards/punt return would rank sixth in NFL history, but the League uses 75 punt returns to qualify for the NFL record (which is 12.8 yards/punt return by George McAfee, Chicago, 1940-41, 45-50)Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. Austin and McFarland will be the return specialists this week.
Austin had 29 PRs for 323 yards and 2 TDs in college. And has speed to burn.
Byrd was the returner last week. We all know he won't be on the roster. Austin may be the best option.
"I'm really interested in Anthony McFarland as a kick returner and Calvin Austin as a punt returner," Tomlin said. "We focused their efforts last week on their offensive contributions, particularly in the first half of the game. We're really going to be interested in their special teams contributions this week, along with their offensive responsibilities."Comment

Rooney (in the past) has had that type of juice. Now maybe he's stepped back and is letting Khan/Weidl do their thing. But Rooney has stuck his nose into past affairs.Rooney does not decide such things. Perhaps I am over estimating the intelligence and wisdom of Mike Tomlin. Boom, shalackalacka boom. Unless you don't think him sticking his nose in to draft Ben was a major deal. Or him firing/hiring coordinators was a big deal. I am pretty sure he "sticks his nose in" on our 1st round draft pick every year.Comment

No injuries!!!Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!
I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.Comment

1. The continued development of Kenny Picket and the passing game against the Bills starters.
2. How well the offensive line blocks and protects
3. Inside backers ability to fill gaps and cover
4. The effectiveness and depth of the defensive line and secondary
5. The punt and punt return game - particularly Calvin Austinsigpic
