Pickett play more than 1 drive and play good, if he struggles, I'd keep him out there for the work against live ammo
Najee needs work and to prove he is the RB1. I haven't heard enough good at training camp and didn't see enough last week
ILBs continue to sort out who are the starters and who are the backups
Dan Moore play extended time and show if he's improved or not
If JPJ can play 3 quarters, I'd play him
Nick Herbig probably won't duplicate last week's game but would love to see him hold his own at the worst
I would love to see Moore get some reps at RT and Jones at LT at the same time
The Steelers need to find a backup center not named Green

I was going to post a similar thought. Even if it's not in the endzone, I'd love to see Washington get the ball and just destroy a defender. Let the big dog eat!I know that we purposefully may be trying not to show too much; but it would be nice to see KP hit that big TE in the end zone as well this weekend. Don't care if it's Muth or Washington. Just want to start to see that being utilized; but again, maybe they don't want to show that card right now.sigpicComment

I'd also like to see what they have with Armon Watts at nose, who signed a 1-year deal. Who should be there - Adams, Watts or Fehoko. All three are not making the 53.
And the new running back - Xazavian Valladay. Good size/speed and highly productive his senior year at AZ St.sigpicComment

They aren't going to beat up Najee Harris, because they already believe he is their best RB. There is no chance he plays significant snaps. It's a preseason game.Your usually right on those points; but a few of these "vets" have a lot to to show as well. Najee needs to show me he can run at a 4.5 yards a clip. Linebackers need to show me that the coverage is better than it was last year. Muth needs to show me he's better at "sitting down" in those zone coverages.
Like you said, rookies and such have to show & earn, but I'm looking at quite a few vets in the first couple of series.
I said in my post that I want to see more coverage opportunities for the ILBs so we can see them in coverage and evaluate them.
To me, Muth has already shown that he is terrific at finding soft spots in zones. He has a great feel for the game. Most tight ends struggle early in the NFL. He has had no problem adapting and producing in all aspects of receiving. He is already rated a Top 10 tight end by pretty much everyone. Some people he is already pushing Top 5. I don't think Pat Freiermuth has anything to prove or to show us that he hasn't already.Comment

+1 Mostly this. I want to see Harris running the ball and doing well. Don't look now, but I think Warren is about to put some distance between the two players and take the job in 2023.For me, it's always about seeing as many of the rookies and young players get as much playing time as possible. I think most of us know and understand where the veteran players are and what to expect from them when the regular season starts.
I want to see more of Benton if healthy.
I want to see Leal and Loudermilk continue to improve and look like they can be a factor.
I want to see somebody play backup center that doesn't just send snaps by the QB and doesn't get blown up into the QBs lap on nearly every play.
I want to see Washington get more playing time and try to work him into more complex route trees.
I am dying to see Joey Porter Jr get on the field and watch him compete and get experience.
We need to see more of the same aggression from all the ILBs. If it continues, that is going to carry over to the regular season. Want to see more in coverage opportunities.
I want to see more of what Roche has been doing. It appears he may have taken another step in his development. I want to see him go up against a good tackle and hold up physically against the run, while still being able to get something done with pressure.
I want to see underdogs in the secondary like Riley and Robinson continue to look good and make plays. The nickel corner position seems to be up for grabs, and with all the secondary injuries, a player like Robinson has a real opportunity to not only make the roster but get real playing time.
Let's see McFarland show more toughness and be able to run between the tackles or in traffic, break some tackles, and power forward after contact for a few extra yards. He needs to stack good games together and carry that over when things really count.
At this point it's all about seeing potential and growth in the young players, while determining who is going to make the final few spots of the 53 that can help the team.
I want to see dumpy / wide rear end. Aka .... Our punter last year. He might not be this year.
I want to see both LT'd play a full quarter vs the #1 or #2 defense. Roatate them in series.
Ray- Ban or Oakley for the head coach? He must choose. The game is at 6:30 PM He will be wearing those shades.
I want to see Pickett go through his reads well and throw the ball down field.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

I completely forgot about what happened to NH foot last year. Your right; they are going to be super cautious with him this year. I love Muth; and I thought I was being bias in thinking he was as good as a top 10 TE in the league. I'm glad you feel the same. Let's me know I'm not just looking at him with Black & Gold glasses on. There were two games last year that made me question his ability to sit down in zones. The second game against the Ravens and the game against the Saints. Maybe I just picked two bad games but in those two games ( was looking at him intently) he often ran right into coverages that he just needed to sit down in and be an available target.Last edited by Steel Maniac; 08-16-2023, 02:40 PM.Comment

FWIW, I don't think it's a good idea to give your starting RB too many touches in the preseason. Risk / reward isn't worth it IMO.+1 Mostly this. I want to see Harris running the ball and doing well. By most accounts RB is the easiest position to come in without much previous work.
He's a vet now and knows the position. Warren too.
That's why Najee only had 1 reception (on 1 target) and no carries last game.
And why Warren only had 3 carries and no receptions (but did get a target).
That's also why it was weird when someone posted that Najee had 0 yards rushing last week. Maybe because he had no carries?Comment

agreed... I was hoping for Quinn Meinerz at that spot - would have made them look smart, given he was a Senior Bowl darling who was projected by some to creep into the 1st.
When they came up on the board and Quinn was still there with all his crazy athleticism, I was stoked because I fully expected that selection - then they passed.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment
