Yea I know, Ernie Holmes shot at helicopters, doc Ellis pitched a no hitter high etc… if you’re going to say things haven’t changed you’re lying to yourself. Contracts, holdouts, drug use and yes SOCIAL MEDIA have changed people for the worse. I don’t like it, that’s my opinion, some “superstar” in the nba got suspended bc he posted a gun photo on… yep SOCIAL MEDIA. Yes there were problems 20 years ago but this generation of players has made sports yuckier, me celebrations, dads fighting reporters in the crowd, it’s brought more spoiled enabling behavior than ever. See Carter, been told how great he is his whole life. Just my opinion, not the same as years ago, human element is less, special superstar is more relevant

I think its just the 24 hour cycle and being able to use cell phone camera’s that make things appear worse.

Why is a contract holdout being in these examples? Players didn’t have FA’s in the 70’s but these dudes were drinking in locker rooms and getting into trouble just
like athletes do in present day.

Also, NFL films used to have TD celebration specials. Those late 70’s and early 80’s celebrations were classics.

Icky Shuffle? Namath in a fur coat
on the sidelines.. the introduction of TV is what started the “look at me” generation of football.

It is a bit funny to shrug at a player 50 years ago shooting at a police helicopter and then bring up Ja waving a gun on IG live like its worse than what Holmes did.

I’m not surprised. Talent trumps the drama until the drama actually takes the player off the field.

You make good points that have me tipping my hat, I stand by my original point though, these guys are given way to much lead way, character is much less important to teams than it use to be. Like you said and I made mention to originally, celebrities voluntarily amerce themselves in social media, they think they are above the law and it’s hard to argue. They need to be held accountable though, Carter should not be a top pick, his decision making proved to be bad and his lying and continued bad decision making are extremely alarming. He will be picked high, probably be an all pro and will be loved and worshiped by millions. I don’t like it or approve it but nobody will care what I think.

Even if not, I can't see him getting past the Raiders at 7.

I still disagree. I don’t think its ever changed for teams regarding character concerns.

But I’m also one who cringes when people try to imply this new generation is much worse than the last.

Dan Marino was passed up bc of what people thought was a flawed character, I just think todays teams let things slide more and are more accepting of bad character.

I think respect has become less of a staple than past generations, kids AS A WHOLE aren’t necessarily bad just less driven and much more entitled. Phones have done that, far too many people are not “try hards” because they fear failing, far easier saying “I could’ve done that if I wanted”….. we can debate all day, best thing is, nobody’s wrong, just a nice civilized back and forth respectful debate.

By one mock. Also saw one that had the Bears staying at 1 and taking him. Pleanty of predictions, and lots will happen between now and draft day, but the one thing I can't see happening is him falling out of the top 10 unless his legal situation involves jail time.

This however drops so many questions. Teams will need to know exactly all the details around this event and if there were any other events not made public yet.
It could be a major deal breaker for this prospect.
doubt it effects his draft status much.

Mixon was passed up a few years back due to his off field problems in college.

Just remember these new whipper snappers are dealing with a world the older generation created for them.

I always hear about the “entitled participation trophy generation” but guess who invented that stuff? Their parents and grandparents.

Personally I think every generation has those who work hard and those who are entitled.

Mixon and Hill did terrible things, but what Carter is doing makes me think he is reckless and/or has a death wish. Wouldn't touch him.

I thought what Tyrek Hill did was beyond anything I'd ever seen. Yet, he's in the league. So Carter is no big deal compared to him.
