You don't lead the team in tackles at safety being lazy.
    Dude gives his all.

He knows his own skill set Prowler, which is why he likes playing deep.

He is intelligent enough to read QBs and make game changing plays. That rare ability is negated when he plays in the box.

Extreme of this would be to force Ed Reed to play box safery all the time. Reeds value, his gifts would not be fully utilized.

Last seasons AWEFUL linebacker play might have forced our hand but I 100 percent get his POV.

He has all pro contributer as a centerfielder. He is far less impactful close to the los.

He is more Reed than Troy. Play to his strengths.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

On the Roman Foster show Ramon said Troy never practiced all that hard.

And we know that Troy didn't do a bunch of the off season work out programs with the team, preferring to do calisthenics away from the group.

Does anyone think Troy was lazy? My guess is that would be a strong "Hell No!"

Also...I'm not done this podcast yet, but it kind of gives an inside look at being a non-star NFL'er.

I wonder if this might give some perspective on the kinds of things a guy like Tuitt might be thinking about. Or maybe what all the guys on our team were thinking about after seeing Shazier carter off the field.

He was famous for not working out with any weight over 25 lbs, but no, not lazy, smart.

All I can say his PFF grade 0f 59 for 2021 speaks for itself. Think what you want to think, my friend. I'll be more than happy to admit I was wrong if Fitz comes back after his new contract, and has season like he had in year #1 for the Steelers. I have a feeling we're dealing with LaMarr Woodley #2.

But I think that's results biased.

If we cherry picked a year after he was a back to back all-pro, could we then call him lazy for not working out like an NFL player?

And while I believe that Troy is the best defensive player I've ever seen in real-time, you know who has more all pros to his name through the firs 4 years of their careers? This isn't to say that I think Minkah will have a better career than Troy...although that would be phenomenal to watch. It's just to point out that Fitz is pretty damn good.

It's ridiculous to call Minkah lazy. But I think that's the point of this thread. Just to stir the pot / **** post.

                I said this earlier.
“Minkah’s early season bad PFF grades can also partly be attributed to newly added responsibilities and trying to do too much.”

Minkah’s average PFF grade after first 3 games – 28.5
His PFF grade in week 12 – 89.9

I don't know the grades for each week, but just saying.

If we can get good play on the DL and ILB so that Minkah doesn't have to lead the team in tackles (he had 35 more tackles, or 40% more than the next guy - Cam)*, I think we'll be able to do a better job of letting him do what he does best.

                  * Minkah was 18th in the league in total tackles and 1st among FSs. Because we sucked at making tackles and our FS had to save our bacon consistently. Seems to me like a "lazy player" would have been making more "business decisions" on those plays vs. sticking his face in the fan.

I really hope you're right that Minkah will be better if we get good play at ILB and on the DL. He shouldn't have to be put in the position of being a run defender very often. He excels in coverage. This is where he should play 95% of the time.

                      This.

And we know how good he is in that situation.

Eric Green for sure. On the team currently perhaps our punter as he is very out of shape relative to the others who play the position. Is he lazy? I don't know. He rates at the bottom in net average. Only one player is worse.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***
