There you go again referencing a franchise QB as the one piece Cowher needed to win a SB. But what did Cowher do when the Steelers got to the playoffs that year? They took it out of Roethlisberger's hands. He attempted less than 25 passes in 3 out of 4 post season games. And he threw more INTs in that SB than he did TDs.

1. There's the part with Cowher's players and coaches (Tomlin did very well)
2. There's the second, longer lasting part of players Tomlin drafted and coached (He's been absolutely terrible playoff wise)
You see north, the first part is in the past. All the success you are talking about is more than a decade old.
The second part is the longer lasting, rest of the way part..which is the only part that matters NOW.
I am not taking anything away for what Tomlin did with Cowher's players and coaches. He did a great job.
But we are living in the now, the after life of Cowher's players and coaches, the going forward after the fact. And Tomlin has wasted that window. I don't see why you can't get that.
The first part is gone; dead and buried.Comment

Tomlin received an extension for the way the team performed last season.
Injuries and ultimately turnovers became the team's undoing. What happened in 2017, 2018, ect doesn't matter. It's really not that difficult to understand.Comment

I was on the message board during the Cowher years and I used to give him a pass because he had everything but a QB. I never called for Cowher's head. Not once.
On the other hand, the guy who you support has had a franchise QB his entire career and can't get the job done without Cowher's players and coaches.
It's extremely difficult to reason with people who get suck in a certain mindset. You should save yourself some grief and disown the Steelers. Become a band wagon fan. That way you can always stick with a championship winner. Problem solved if championships are only what matters to you.Comment

No...there's two parts.
1. There's the part with Cowher's players and coaches (Tomlin did very well)
2. There's the second, longer lasting part of players Tomlin drafted and coached (He's been absolutely terrible playoff wise)

Has no bearing weather Cowher wanted Ben or not.
Cowher fielded some great teams but he did not have a franchise QB until his final 3 years of coaching. And he won when he got a franchise QB.
Tomlin has had a franchise QB his entire tenure. There's no comparison.
If Cowher would have had Ben in the beginning like Tomlin did, we'd have at least two more SB wins.
Ben had early success, but how much better did he get? Did he put in the full effort to be the best or was he satisfied and coasted?
Maybe Tomlin hasn’t had a franchise QB for the last 10 years either.
Im not trying to over simplify and boil this down to one thing that lost us the SuperBowl. It’s a team sport. There’s infinite factors at play and some of them are pure luck.
I get frustrated with Tomlin. I get frustrated with Ben. I like them both and I have considered Tomlin has been hamstrung by Ben’s subpar play over the last 10 years. I’ve also contemplated the opposite.
Ive stated over the years that it’s impossible to know who to give credit to and who deserves the blame in the NFL. The players, the coaches, the owners, the GM all play a big part. Trying to give credit or place blame is nearly impossible and the one truth is everyone is a little wrong about everything. Some more than others, but no way to know who and by how much.
The one thing that gives me perspective is being a Pirates fan too. In that context I feel guilty even having a slightly negative thought about the Steelers. I think being a Bucco fan makes me irrationally optimistic abou the Steelers if that makes any sense.sigpicComment

Sports are not simply about winning championships. Enjoyment and success can be recognized outside of champions. Having the ability to analyze the circumstances of individual seasons can go a long way to reaching an understanding.

it would be better for everyone.Comment

Steelers players unanimously happy about Tomlin extension
But what do they know compared to "message board experts." This more than anything discredits everyone who hates Tomlin. The Head Coach's job is to lead and win. Tomlin does both
I feel he was due an extension of some kind, so I'm glad to see it. One thing about the Steelers is their consistency.
Question- did you see the interview with Mike Wallace? He posted that of the teams he's been with, the Steelers were the best, and Tomlin is a hell of a coach.. We all need to listen to the players, and those around the team 24/7, rather than all of us board trollers.6- Time Super Bowl Champions......

Its futile to argue with those who scream SB’s. We are tied for the most SB wins as a franchise with 6 yet some are upset because they expected Tomlin to have 4 or 5 because he had Ben.
Cowher won a SB with Ben 1 year out of 3 so of course this means Ben should win a SB every 3 years regardless of pay increase, roster changes and declining skills due to age.Steelers 27

I like SB appearances but this constant reference to SB’s is just annoying.
“Don’t draft a position because when we won our last SB.. “
“Don’t celebrate a season unless its a SB”
We won 12 games but it doesn’t matter because we didn’t make a SB”
Fans have swallowed the kool aid. I get wanting to win SB’s. But if all you care about is SB’s.. that’s a miserable life.
My best memories of the Steelers aren’t the SB wins. Wasn’t old enough to remember the 70’s. Only have 2 SB’s to remember in my adult years.. those aren’t the only 2 years that matter as Steeler fans.
Get a life people.. lol.Steelers 27
