In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher -
It doesn't take any scouting talent to be a nay sayer about a QB and predicting failure. Mathematically speaking that's the way to go. But, if Haskins doesn't succeed it's not because he doesn't have elite NFL talent. It's because he doesn't do the work to understand the NFL game and the PB. I don't know where his head is at. It's my only concern. I know how good this guy is. He throws one of the prettiest balls into tight pockets. He is a 3-4 deep read QB. His head is on a swivel with elite arm talent. His issue and only issue has been maturity and sloth. We shall see how much he wants this.
And I bet that the odds of success are even lower than normal for highly drafted guys that get cut (not even traded) in the middle of their cheap rookie contracts.
I really hope that he works out.
Just like I was hoping that Paxton Lynch worked out.
It makes sense to take flyers on these high pedigree cast offs. But you have to understand that you're buying penny stocks.
On the "bright side" betting on Haskins is probably more like betting 00 on roulette (unlikely but it happens) than betting a flipped coin lands on it's edge (statistically not exactly impossible).Comment

But just to help let's establish the facts on this topic. I supported signing Haskins as a low risk high pay off move. While I would like him to become a All Pro, the reality is he is likely to be another Josh Rosen or Vince Young
I'm not pulling for him to fail because that is bad for the team, I just think there is a high probability he will fail. Everything positive you read is about what he does in practice...never in a game and he has quite a bit of tape
So if that offends your Buckeye fan feelings I'm sorry but I'm also likely right. I hope Haskins is another example of where I'm supposedly wrong "so often""My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Please enlighten us on all these times I've been wrong

I know he never lived up to the hype but I also felt like Fisher was a terrible coach who made life more difficult for VY than it needed to be.
Always wondered what would happen if teams embraced QB’s like VY and built offenses around them like they are doing with Murray and LJ.
I believe his last season VY went 8-2 after an 0-6 start with Collins at QB.
Many say Fisher never wanted VY. I guess that is similar to Haskin’s in DC.Last edited by feltdizz; 06-05-2021, 09:41 AM.Steelers 27

A guy like Paxton Lynch is a better comparable here IMO.
A high pedigree guy that they gave up on. Although maybe not even that because Lynch saw the end of his rookie contract.
Picking up Haskins was a no-brainer because there's upside and it didn't cost anything.
And I was super bullish when we first signed him because I thought he was only dropped because he went out partying during covid.
But it's more than that.
Hopefully he can turn it around here, but he'll have to do it very quickly (like this year). You don't get as much rope as Young Ben when you don't go to AFCCs and SBs early in your career.Comment

If you just got your nose out of joint because I was critical of one of your OSU infatuations then sorry about that.
Bottom line is I hope I'm wrong about Haskins but I'm probably right. We can just leave it at that."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

We have Mason under contract next year and we will be able to have Haskins on the cheap as an RFA if we still want him.
Let them battle it out to see if one can be a starter while we let the dead money we've pushed into next year expire.
I think that will give us either (i) a reasonable starter or (ii) a transitional guy for when we draft a QB in 23 (with little to no dead money on the cap...although I guess Sutton's contract voids after next year, so his dead money will show up for 23).Comment
