I want us to rebuild, so I'm probably just reading the tea leaves the way I want.
But it seems like this might be an indication that Ben isn't coming back.
More probably, it's just that we needed a 3rd QB and having a young guy with high pedigree for cheap is a good decision.Comment

He now joins an illustrious group of 1st round QBs bought in by Colbert:
Ben Roethlisberger
Tommy Maddox
Michael Vick
Byron Leftwich
Paxton Lynch

And he'll have a bust in Canton.Comment

I’m liking this. This is very low risk if it’s a one year deal. A young, former first round pick with something to prove. If he doesn’t pan out, he gets released. Boom or bust...Comment

it should be a cheap deal..
and its covid offseason. I imagine he wants to be on a team as soon as possible instead of waiting and risking an offseason with limited workouts.
doubt this has anything to do with Ben’s decision.Steelers 27

I imagine that he's playing for ~$1M or whatever the minimum for a 2 year player is.

The timing makes no sense tho.
Can’t wait for the numbers to help clear stuff up.
I’ll go on record saying I really like this signing if the money is low.
It’s okay to gamble on a terrible qb with lots and lots of character issues as long as it’s low risk. How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

I hope you’re right about the money.

Bring in anyone in on a deal near minimum salary. You only count your highest 51 (or so) contracts. So there's no harm in cutting a guy at a minimum deal because he'll just be replaced by a guy with the same cap hit.
And I think the "character issues" re: covid violations were really just the Redskins taking the opportunity to get out of the contract. If they decided he wasn't the future, I think violations like that let them recoup SB and guarantees. Not sure if they ended up going through with this though.
A guy can be a mistake of a high draft pick, but still contribute to a team. Darius Heyward-Bey comes to mind.
The language of Haskins’ contract, a copy of which PFT has obtained, has specific terminology that voids remaining guarantees based on something less than an actual suspension. Here’s the key language, regarding : “Player shall be deemed in Default of the Contract if Player takes any action that Club determines, in its reasonable discretion, undermines the public’s respect for . . . Player’s teammates, Club’s ownership, coaches, [or] management.”
The Haskins contract also says that, in the event of a default, all remaining guarantees “shall immediately be deemed NULL AND VOID.” (Emphasis in original.)Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 01-21-2021, 04:29 PM.Comment

Gotta have some major issues to dump a guy that quick.
But it sounds like the price is right to see if he can get his career straightened out.How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment
