As Steelers fans we get consistently winning to go with the Superbowl wins.
Hard to have championships without winning records first.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

      Honestly, yes.

I live in the Buffalo market. I would much rather be consistently competitive than be a terrible team for long stretches of times.

Ask the Browns if they would rather have our regular season records even if you swapped out the SB wins for AFCC losses or SB losses.

I'm also a Leafs fan, so I know what futility over decades looks like from the inside.

I bet that some people here are Pirates fans, but my guess is that being a Pirate fan in Pittsburgh is kind of like being a Raptors fan in Toronto. It's nice if they win, but it's not really that important either way.

It's no contest. We're just so spoiled that we don't realize how good we have it.

Did you live there during the Levi years? Bet there was a lot of calls for his head back then...."cant win the big one". Be careful what you wish for, no doubt they call those the "good ole days" now.

Teams that are competitive always have a chance to win the SB. I think it will be obvious to most of us when it's time for a change at HC.

It will be interesting to to see what direction the ownership goes towards once Colbert retires. Will they hire someone from within? Will they want to make a change at HC? Will they find a GM that can fit into the Steeler way? They will probably attempt to hire someone from within the organization if there are any candidates.

They also had their share of opportunities to compete for the SB. I enjoy many of those seasons even though they didn't end in a championship win.

Steeler's fans are probably spoiled more by consistent winners than SB wins. Yeah I am certain that fans are more spoiled by consistently winning after thinking about it. Consistently winning is just as important as the SB wins.
This was when I chose to be a fan of the Steelers. I grew up in Canada (outside of Toronto), but didn't get into watching football until 90 or 91.

People I knew that like football were mostly Bills fans from the Jim Kelly days. But it was kind of the end of their times and I'd always been more excited by defensive play in sports.

I loved watching the Steelers (and they were one of the teams that was on TV more consistently outside of the Bills).

It never really bothered me that they didn't win a championship (for another 15 years or so).

Sure, those AFCC home loses hurt. But after a day or two I was always more or less happy that I was following a team that was consistently competitive and I figured that if they stayed that way they'd eventually win.

I really only started watching football at the tail end of the Kelly run. I watched the Bills SB losses, but didn't really know too many people that were super into whether they won or lost.

But I'd listen to the radio and we'd get most stations from the US so they'd talk about it a lot.

Toronto was way more of a NHL town and NFL football didn't really seem to be too big of a thing around us.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that it was a different time when we were growing up. As kids we mostly just played outside until the "streetlights came on". There weren't too many TV stations and our parents wouldn't really let us watch TV for half the day (and more importantly we wouldn't really have wanted to).

We're trying to at least have some of that with our kids, but I think it's much harder now that they can watch cartoons on demand (instead of only being on right after school and Saturday morning).

Anyway, back in my day it was awesome. And get off my lawn because I've got to start shaking my fist at the clouds.

Hi, i'm a long time Browns fan, and i have to say, why would the Steelers want to let Coach Tomlin go ?? This team has a winning culture. Their history proves that. No matter if its, Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher or Mike Tomlin, the Steelers are a top NFL teams with constant winning seasons. I wish my Browns could have the record like the Steelers. In the past 20 yrs, the Browns have had countless head coaches, terrible QB's, and numerous players that come and go. And what do we have to show for it, just look at their records for the past 20 yrs. You have to thank the Browns and Bengals for majority of the Steelers wins per season. Now if the Steelers were 0-6 well then there is something to wonder why? I never felt it was fair for the head coach to get fired and the players keep their jobs, and their high paid contracts for playing very poorly.

OK, I can go along with that, but that's not exactly what you said earlier:

The ultimate goal is to win Super Bowls. Of course, you can't achieve that every year, but that's what you're after. I'd rather have a losing season now and then, and win 6 Super Bowls in 50 years, than to never have a losing season in that span, and never win a Super Bowl.

No one is seriously suggesting getting rid of Tomlin at this time.

Sorry you're a Browns fan, you're welcome to come join the Steelers bandwagon.

Especially since most teams don't get the "boom" (TM by SM).

Or if they do their "boom" isn't much different that our consistently competitive play (except it's generally for fewer years).

We've been exceptionally luck for the last 30 years or so. It won't continue forever. There will be big questions / challenges when Ben retires.

                            So let's enjoy the ride.

if you think it’s worse to start a thread rubbing it in the nose of Tomlin haters than to actually be a Tomlin hater.. well that speaks volumes.
