Has Colbert Lost All Credibility?

Pete, all we’ve now done is set a precedent on this team that has a weak culture. Who’s next to want to quit their contract? You talk about getting ahead of a problem ; we’ll you do it by setting standards. But what we’ve just done is not only make our FO look bad but now every player in the league is gonna try this stunt that Rosenhaus & AB did.Comment

SM,
If you think that the Steelers wouldn't have fined him for doing/saying things while under contract, you are kidding yourself. And no I don't know that a 3rd would've been there.
I just am going to disagree with you on this one and say that I would rather have the 3rd and 5th this year than maybe a 3rd next year.
If you ask me if I am happy the top WR only landed a 3 & 5, of course not, but this is not a normal situation.
AB won. The Steelers screwed this up royally from the start. if you read my post fully (and I am not suggesting you didn't), then you will see that I stated this started when Tomlin basically said "he could handle AB."
He couldn't and we find the Steelers here today.
But this isn't Colbert IMO, this is an organization starting at the HC that thought he could tolerate a lot of behavioral issues as long as the talent level was there.
This dynamic started with Blount/Bell, move onto Harrison, Bell, Brown...and hell maybe tolerating some of the things Ben does as well to boot.
Now something to be optimistic about...I think that Ben/Shuster/Washington are going to want to prove something next season...it wouldn't surprise me if this doesn't reboot Ben's fire (not that it was lacking) and may even lead to him working with his WR's in the offseason to build that ESP he seemed to have with Brown.

The whole organization has lost all credibility. Actually, they haven't had much credibility in a long time. Fans outside of Pittsburgh think the team is a circus joke, and they're right. Forget all the sideshow antics, this team hasn't won **** in a very long time. Until Rooney grows a pair and gets rid of the idiot Tomlin, we'll continue to be on the same level of laughingstock as the Browns, Bengals, etc.
Back to AB, yes, it's almost unbelievable that the arguably the best player, not best WR, best player in the league nets you a 3rd and 5th. This has been a situation that, along with the Bell fiasco, is cause for multiple firings. But as we know, nothing will happen. Never doesComment

Now who is assuming?Brother, we would have still gotten a 3rd round pick a year later.
I hear what everyone is saying about just getting it over with. But Colbert came out several times and stated, if I don’t get decent value, then no trade will be done. So he should have stuck to his guns. Now he looks like an absolute fool and players all over Twitter are mocking him and now players think they can quit on contracts anytime they choose.
YOU are claiming AB is worth more, but the market determines his value.
The Steelers got a 3rd and 5th. The market has spoken. The market decided he wasn't worth a 1st or 2nd.
The one option the Steelers may have tried was keeping AB with idea of trading him by the season deadline to a team with a need after injury. But that carries a lot of risk.Comment

It's because people felt optimistic that we could somehow get high value picks and retool in the upcoming draft. There were visions of two Devin's dancing in people's heads.
It was never going to happen.
The fact is looking at Pete's post above and my belief that Ben/JJ/James/Washington is going to want to prove that this team doesn't need Brown...they will be even that more dedicated to proving this offense is addition by subtraction. Perhaps it won't work but something inside of me feels that Brown will be added to the list above by Pete when we see a breakout year by Washington or that we bring on a veteran presence that can stretch the field.
I think Ben will work even harder with the WR's here to prove this...
I am thinking things will be better moving forward. Call it unbridled optimism. But there it is.

Yep, we move on. Both those two cornball players never got us any rings either. And being reflective right now, that style of play isn’t conducive to winning championships. Being able to run the ball and play defense is what gets you where you want to go. Blessing in disguise.Comment

$$$$$lol....................pathetic and embarrassing
thanks to thje steelers, the entire league will now have to deal with this type of behavior going forward
AB just showed the rest of the players how to act if they want out of their contract and the steelers bent over and took it
i really didnt think i could be more embarrassed to call the steelers my favorite team during the past 2 seasons. i was wrong
AB came out of this smelling like a rose. This is wrong on so many levels. Mr. Big Chest threw a hissy fit and got his way, and the Steelers got screwed. There should be some way we can fine him heavily, or recoup some of the millions in signing bonus we paid him. This sets a terrible precedent, and we will be paying for years, IMO.Comment

I'm hoping you're right ... if we can get to a more balanced attack, and get the prima donna "superstar" mentality off this team, it could turn out to be a huge blessing.Yep, we move on. And some Steeler players are on twitter applauding what AB did. Let’s watch the ripple effect of what AB did. Let’s watch it around the league.$$$$$

Except, according to reports, it almost DID happen.
If A-Me doesn't put the kibosh on it (which he should NEVER be ALLOWED to DO), he's with Buffalo right now with pick #20 and we have pick #9 and pick #40.
Hope you're right about these things.Originally posted by brothervad
