Has Colbert Lost All Credibility?

Compensation was set at 2nd and 4th predicated on Brown's current deal. After Rosenhaus told Raiders he wouldn't report under that contract the deal fell to 3rd and 5th.

And then we should have hung up the phone. Like Colbert told everbody he would do if not offered fair compensation.Comment

We should be thankful we got rid of him. The mistake Colbert made was extending AB when he did. We should have traded him then for a #1. AB had character issues from the beginning.Comment

And the minute that happens AB is doing his social media antics while the rest of the team is trying to make a season. And you would be the first guy on here whining about how bad AB is making the org look.
And if the team fines him, he takes it through the players union. Further media circus..
Face it. Your solution is worse than the deal the Steelers got.Comment

There you go “ assuming” what someone else will say. I went on the record siding with Colbert in that if we don’t get a fair offer, sit on him. So stop with your assuming. And the minute that happens AB is doing his social media antics while the rest of the team is trying to make a season. The Raiders called Colbert's bluff.
This past year has been a bad showing by the Steelers FO. The Bell situation backfired, non-stop drama, the Brown disaster and Colbert's extremely poor choice of words in his "52 kids" comment. That comment alone is an enabler for Roethlisberger and to a certain degree validated Brown's frustrations.Tomlin: Let's unleash hell and "mop the floor" with the competition.Comment

You sit on him for the entire season. He can say what he wants.. he’s getting paid. They didn’t even have to react to anything he said. As crazy as he looked, no one was taking him too seriously.Comment

The cultural side of this is another issue. But yeah, Rooney Jr. has to realize this isnt 1982 anymore. Come out your office and roll up your sleeves and get involved with your franchise. LolThe Raiders called Colbert's bluff.

I am really trying to understand the vitriol...
Punishing AB was never going to bring him back into the fold...and by having him punished during that year really doesn't give us any cap relief or flexibility. Plus it is a lingering cancer that will continue to hang over your ball club.
And tell me if having him take that year off, would give the Steelers any value at all? If your moaning over a 3rd and 5th now, what say you a year from now when they basically have to release him and get nothing at all.
Draft-niks are disappointed because they had all these dreams about the Devin's being in the black and gold. I get it. But it was never gonna be and when the Bills deal got nixed and the "play by my rules" crap earlier it became apparent they were going to have to get what they could. Also, we got a 3 & 5 from Oakland when supposedly 2 other teams were in the mix.
A) there were never 2 other teams or
B) it there were, what's it say that the best we could get was Oakland's 3rd & 5th?
I don't blame Colbert for this trade, regardless of what was said or implied, they were never going to keep him here in Pittsburgh.
I don't blame them for the extension, if Coach Tomlin said to the Rooney's "I can handle AB, he is just a little high strung." Then you go by what your coach tells you
I do blame the FO for being too soft with AB
Look I hate to type this, but I do blame Mike Tomlin. He, unfortunately, misjudged, the AB situation and his ability to handle it.
The FO and its handling of LB situation also...it showed AB the way on how you can get your way with this club. If you hold your breath long enough and create a tantrum you will get your way.
Unfortunately, I am happy we got what we did.

Brother, we would have still gotten a 3rd round pick a year later.
I hear what everyone is saying about just getting it over with. But Colbert came out several times and stated, if I don’t get decent value, then no trade will be done. So he should have stuck to his guns. Now he looks like an absolute fool and players all over Twitter are mocking him and now players think they can quit on contracts anytime they choose.Comment

SM,
A 3rd next year? After a year of possibly being a cancerous voice in the locker room? Or worse yet, tweeting on SM as he is suspended for conduct reasons by the team.
The NFLPA and Drew Rosenhaus lawsuits that would be brought forth (whether they would have any merit, they still would have been forthcoming).
I think stating an absolute of "He would've gotten a 3rd next year." is really highly speculative, especially with all the above and the fact he will be 32.
I look at it this way (being optimistic as possible) having a 3rd and 5th with one NFL season experience under their belt is far more valuable than even a potential 3rd rounder next year.
Plus we get rid a lockerroom cancer to boot.
Finally, I believe that Colbert meant what he said about we won't give AB away. Where I think he and I disagree with you is that given of Mr. Big Chests antics and demands...this was as good as it was going to get.
