Agreed 100%, Cousins isn't close to being an elite NFL quarterback, paying him big money would be a waste of money, IMO.

As I stated in another thread, Minnesota is in a unique situation at QB. All 3 are starter quality, and all 3 are free agents at the end of the year. Is it worth kicking the tires in Minnesota?

Cousins might not be an elite NFL QB but statistically-speaking he’s at least a poor mans’s Big Ben.

            Cousins:
            2015 - 379/543, 69.8%, 4166yds, 29tds, 11int
            2016 - 406/606, 67%, 4,917yds, 25tds, 12int
            2017 - 347/540, 64.3%, 4093yds, 27tds, 13int

            Roethlisberger:
            2015 - 319/469, 68%, 3938yds, 21tds, 16int
            2016 - 328/509, 64.4%, 3819yds, 29tds, 13int
            2017 - 360/561, 64.2%, 4231yds, 28tds, 14int
Obviously the standard is the standard.

His numbers look very similar. Would be hard to make the case that they are not of the same caliber... based on the #s.

The browns have a ton of draft picks and cap space. They are also desperate for a franchise qb. Wouldn’t surprise me if they draft a couple in the first round looking for the savior. As to who they take? Simple. Take the worst one first.

Point being, by pick 31 I’m not sure a Ben replacement is on the board - but like others it’s too early for me to make an objective analysis.

Ben's playing his best football right now and I don't see him leaving.

But if he does, we should be able to find a quality FA to compete with Landry Jones. What QB wouldn't want to play behind a great OLine with AB, Juju, Martavis, McDonald, and Bell? There's no better place to potentially compete for a SuperBowl in 2018-19.

I'm by no means a Landry Jones fan, but he might be our best option in the short term.

Cousins isn’t a poor mans anything these days. Dude is making bank. He isn’t anywhere close to Ben tho when it comes to talent and decision making.

I don't know anything about college QBs, but I don't want a QB no-matter what Ben decides to do.

                      A) If he stays, I want to get someone who will contribute while he's still playing (can we get an impact ILB at the end of the first?).

                      B) If he goes, I want to play a year with Jones / Dobbs at QB so we get a better shot at a franchise QB in the next draft.

Repeat option A for as long a Ben plays. Then, do option B.

Well if the Steelers lose both Ben and Bell in the offseason that still leaves a stellar offensive line and one of the best receiving corps in the league. If that happens do you really want to waste all that talent on a Landry Jones, Dobbs, or some rookie minus a running game? I’d rather bring in some kind of seasoned gunslinger to make the most out of what would be left in the cupboard.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

With the Steelers WR Corps Cousins is easily a 5,000 yard passer. He’s had garbage to work with in Washington but he still puts up solid stats game after game. Give him the keys to our offense and I think he’ll keep us in the playoffs for at least the next 3 seasons.

Cousins also has 25% of the talent around him that Ben has

                            He would thrive with us

but here is the thing. I don't want a 5,000 yard passer. I don't think we need a 5,000 yard passer. If we have one more than likely it's because we are getting blown out in games. I'm not big on stats either. I'm more game tape and decision making in the clutch. I've seen enough to know for the money I think Cousins is a bad idea.

I think with the weapons we have we need a ball control type QB. I'm no longer a Landry Jones fan tho.. I really think Dobbs is our guy moving forward until we get a legit franchise QB.

If the Steelers win the SB, this is Ben's last season. I believe that.
