Why is this board so ugly after a loss?

Does some player have to suck, does some coach have to be hog vomit, some poster have to be a d-bag? Teams win, teams lose. Being sad about a loss is one thing, posting like someone stole your woman and did nasty things to your dog is too much, isn't it?

Speaking for myself, this board is way too over the top way too often. It makes it a lot less enjoyable to come here than I wish it was. Any chance of people making a conscious decision to dial it down?

all message boards are like this after a loss. I'm not seeing any ugliness though. Just people pointing out the poor performances by coaches and players alike. Why is that nasty? I feel like the apologists make much ado about nothing. Always ready to defend their idols before a shot is even fired and to make others with a different opinion feel unwanted.

we had a ton of significant injuries. when you lose your starting center, starting left tackle and are playing a 3rd string QB - that presents a challenge in the NFL. And we were within one score in the 4th quarter. the defense holds that last touchdown drive we had a chance to win. i'm disappointed with missed opportunities. i'm more upset about the baltimore loss than today.

ben isn't traditionally sharp returning from an injury - good chance we're 4-4 and playing for a wildcard after next week.

having said that, get everyone healthy - get on a run in december and there's no reason this team can't go the distance.

i'm surprisingly calm about today.

There is much truth in this post, but people will tend to try and play it down, making excuses for others...but, nonetheless, you are right...

Speaking just for myself I think it's more a case of misery loves company. I'm always irate after a loss so I like to vent to other unhappy Steelers after the game is over. It's kind of like therapy in a way especially since I'm one of those nutballs who take Steelers football waaaaay too seriously.

Because people take a game played by millionaires way too seriously. Perhaps they have nothing in their own lives. Perhaps they have a desperate need to demonstrate how smart they are. I'm sure there are a multitude of reasons but in the grand scheme of things a loss is unfortunate but who cares. It doesn't put food or a roof over your family's head, help you raise better children, treat your wife better, etc.

A loss ruins my week. Seriously. When I vent and call the players/coaches/waterboy/popcorn and beer guy in the stands/ Belichik / Tom Brady all kinds of bad names, it releases some of the tension.
I seriously doubt they care.

And oh, btw, I hate the Pats and would love to see someone wipe the smug smile off Brady's face..

As I've said before there's like 3 levels of fans who follow the Pittsburgh Steelers. First there's simply Steelers fans who only love the team, live just about anywhere and are generally more casual in their attitudes about how they see the team. Then there are Pittsburgh fans who are loyal to the Pirates, Penguins, Steelers, Pitt, and their local high school sports teams and who are just a little more nutty about their teams. Then there are the third group which of course are Yinzers and most of them cannot be reasoned with when it comes to anything Pittsburgh, especially the Steelers.

I don't agree with most of this other than, "people take a game played by millionaires too seriously". I'm one of them. But it has nothing to do with anything missing in my life. I've chosen to become emotionally invested in a team that represents where I'm from. And when they lose, it sucks. I'm competitive and when I watch the Steelers play, I get emotional in a similar way as if I'm actually out there playing. There's nothing more to it than that. It's part of being a life-long fan.

I do it for fun and as long term members know to tweak some noses time to time. I could care less what anyone thinks about me or my opinions. I was over the loss a minute after the game ended. Actually I was having a great time baking in the sun watching the US Women's National Team beat Brazil in Orlando.

I agree. Sports are a release, an escape, a distraction. For me, the Steelers game is 3 hours when I don't work or do anything other than get lost in a game. When the Steelers lose, particularly a winnable game or a game where they didn't play well, I'm angry and I like to vent.
