Felt, you insist that Ben isn't worried about keeping his job. You're right. He has no need to be worried. But in your OP you say "the last thing a franchise QB wants to see is another QB looking all franchisy". Why would he not want to see Jones play a great game?

Dizz, why would Ben feel more pressure to play than if our season was tanking due to poor QB play?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Haha thanks! This'll be a "second" career for me and I'm enjoying the process of getting my teaching certificate so far. Looking forward to more time in the classroom!

Of course he wants to see Jones play a good game if he doesnt play...

But this is basically big kids playing with toys... and its all good when your little cousin plays with your yo-yo and fumbles with it. However, if that younger cousin starts walking the dog with the yo-yo and doing crazy tricks.. all of a sudden you wsnt your toy back so you can show off.

Ben just said he was splitting reps with Landry and would let the coaches decide if Jones should get more reps...

Ben wants to play this week because he saw Jones playing with his toys...

                  Excellent simile.
I couldn't help wonder, when I saw Ben cheering Landry on Sunday, if at least a small part of him wasn't envious that it wasn't he who was winning the game for us.
Not that he'd want Jones to mess up. Its what you said up there..

The difference is Dizz, that there is no downside to a young cousin fumbling with your toys.

Poor QB play, can lead to loses which hurts Bens season and the road to a playoff more difficult .

POOR QB PLAY would make Ben MORE anxious to come back early.

Dizz I get your point that Ben is no doubt EXCITED to get back seeing his guys excelling and no doubt wishes he was leading the way..

But my point is that it does not make him more incetivised to rush back too soon.

In fact he is LESS LIKELY since he has a little more confidence that the kid can hold the fort in his absence.

                        Let's get real here.

IF LANDRY THROWS 2 PICKS IN A LOSS RATHER THAN 2 TDS IN A VICTORY, DON'T YOU THINK HE WOULD BE MORE LIKELY TO WANT TO RUSH BACK AND PLAY AGAINST KC?

yeah, I wish I would have put that simile in my OP.

Ben definitely wants to see Landry succeed... but there is room for envy and friendly competition. We are talking about a franchise QB who probably still carried a chip on his shoulder... guys like Ben are extremely competitive.

my fear is Ben trying to rush back too soon when we may have a decent QB who can give him time to heal for this SB run.

In what scenario would Ben NOT want to rush his comeback? Competitors want to play, no matter what.

The Steelers have doctors and trainers that are not going to allow Ben to make the decision on when to come back anyway. He's got to be cleared to play before he plays.

I think Ben has enough influence to play even when he wasn't the best option at QB (due to health).

Remember when Ben looked like hot garbage in the Washington game in 2008 when we went 10 quarters without a TD on offense? We benched him at half time and Lefty came in and immediately marched us down the field for a TD?

Tomlin made an announcement that whoever practiced would play QB next week. We found out Ben wasn't practicing due to injury but was playing and our offense was horrible due to the lack of reps...

Even if he is cleared to play does this mean he is the best option this week? I know most will say yes but we have seen players get, cleared and stink up the place because they could use another week off.

It's his team, he is out leader but he is also the type of player we have to save from himself from time to time because he is the ultimate competitor.
