Ben did not Draw up that play, Tomlin said they ran that play a few times during the week, its not like Ben was on the sideline drawing up plays in the dirt. There was a discussion on the sideline about a "shot play", Ben thought that play would work, so did Haley, and they asked Vick if he was comfortable with the play.

not sure if there are stats to back this, but, he seemed significantly better when rolling left versus standing or rolling right. Seems like an OC would pick up on this.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

True, the play exists, but it isnt designed to be pa or a roll out, especially to the left.Ben did not Draw up that play, Tomlin said they ran that play a few times during the week, its not like Ben was on the sideline drawing up plays in the dirt. I think there's a chance ben is activated for this week. i believe he really wants to play the cards - i just hope the team is strong enough to hold him back if they think he's not ready yet.2014 MNF EXEC CHAMPION!!!Comment

I'm certain he wants to play the Cards and every other team on the schedule. But I see 0% chance he's activated for this week. I'll be shocked if he comes back before the Bungles.Comment

It's pretty obvious that left handed QB's are better rolling out to the left and right handed QB's are better rolling out to the right. And Vick is better on the move than standing in the pocket, because you get the double advantage of the defense having to respect the possibility of a bootleg run and the fact that the field is now cut in half for him, simplifying the reads for a QB still attempting to learn a new offense.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

The Steelers always seem to do this. They like the athletic backup QBs. Then, when they get into a game, they don't let those guys use their athleticism for fear that they'll be injured. Moreover, it's speculation on my part, but it's worth noting that it's likely by design that Vick has been shoehorned into the role of pocket passer as a preventative measure on the part of the coaching staff. I'd posit that it's the reality of Jones as the sole fail-safe in the event of a Vick injury that has compelled Haley to orchestrate such a conservative offensive game plan the last two weeks.
Vick as a pocket QB is absolutely terrible. Now that Ben is likely a week or 2 away, let Vick be himself. If he gets hurt on a scramble, so be it.Comment

I thought Vick looked pretty sharp against the Ravens....was clearly very timid against the chargers though. He had baltimore locked up 3 different times (especially from the standpoint of a backup QB) but hes not turning the ball over....vick running around and fumbling the ball would mean we are in trouble in the game. Vick working the offense and taking an occasional shot down field would indicate we are in the gameThe Steelers always seem to do this. They like the athletic backup QBs. I agree with this, and I would like to add that there is no indication that our coaching staff doesn't want Vick to run. I haven't seen any reports that the Steelers want Vick to stay in the pocket.I thought Vick looked pretty sharp against the Ravens....was clearly very timid against the chargers though. His biggest problem against the Ravens was taking a few critical sacks...he didnt do that against SD. Offensive production in the SD game was looking dreary but he was a hero in the 4th quarter.
Beautiful bomb to wheaton, a sideline strike to DHB, huge run on 3rd down, and something that doesnt get talked about is the ballsiness of the call to let him throw it to heath at the goal line while already inside the 20. Playing for a FG with a backup QB is the easy call there, but they went for it and won the game because of it. Of course if it fails the fire everyone chants start, but I like aggressive play calling in that situation whether it works or not because the defense played admirably but they played A LOT of snaps, I wouldnt have felt good about OTComment

I could ask you the same question, but the only point I was trying to make is that Landry does nothing better than Vick so why even entertain switching the two when there's no discernible advantage to doing so? Landry isn't accurate (worse than Vick in fact), has zero mobility, no pocket presence or situational awareness (well, neither of them do), and he has no arm. About the only real advantage he has over Vick is a working knowledge of the playbook, but devoid of the requisite athletic faculties to effectively/reliably execute said plays, I fail to see how this makes him a more attractive option. Really I would feel a lot better if Gradkowski was still an option, but alas...he is not.
Ouch! reading that description of Jones makes one wonder why he would be on ANY NFL roster.....Comment

1) Development. Jones showed some growth this preseason. 2) There really might not be a better option.
There are reasons why the NFL has gone to extreme and sometimes unpopular measures to protect QB's.Comment
