He has been completely awful for 3 games. He was dominant against Carolina, played well against Jacksonville, but reverted back to how he played week one vs the browns and week 2 vs the ravens last week.
When hes supposed to be the best player on the defense, he is not getting it done at that level. Not good at all.Comment

Agreed. He is the only defensive lineman who gets any pass rush but he's part of the problem with the run defense. He has been completely awful for 3 games. As an individual player, McLendon is probably a fine player.
As a 3-4 Zone Blitz NT, he's a terrible fit.
As an anchor in the run game, he's a terrible fit.
When Ziggy Hood replaced Aaron Smith at DE, the Steelers Run D was solid, if not dominant.
Yet we all bagged Ziggy for being weak.
The Run D has fallen apart since McLendon became the starting NT. It's not since Heyward took over at DE. It's not since Cam Thomas came to the Steelers.
It's since Hampton retired & McLendon became a starter.
As an individual 1 technique type DT, sure- he is probably fine.
He's a terrible fit for this Defense.
The DL needs to dominate the LOS. You watch the Steelers in Run D, the only one that can cause 'regular' pocket collapse is Heyward- even if his run defense is not 'great'. For mine, Heyward is Keisel's sucessor. He's the 'pressure' guy. You need 2 anchor's to take up blockers & let the expensive, high round LB's the freedom to make plays.
When was the last time our LB's dominated?
Probably around the time we had a dominant 3-4 Zone Blitz NT...The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

Hood was the opposite of weak, his functional strength wasnt amazing but he was far from weak. He was best over center because he was a good one on one player on the inside. On the outside he lacked discipline in his gap and on passing plays he would try to bend the corner like a big fat OLB, which then he could easily be washed out of the play be a back or a TE.
Mcclendon is not a great fit if you play the defense like we did in 08, but they arent...they are playing him at 1 tech and Heyward at 4 tech...i see what they are trying to do but it is not working at all....they arent playing the same 0 tech and 5 tech like Casey and Aaron Smith played. But even then the power blocking teams (carolina, TB and jacksonville) couldnt run on them, bad run games in general but still thats not their weakness. The ravens and browns GASHED them on the ground and its because they cant defend the zone stretch and that is mostly on heyward and worilds imo.....i saw mcclendon make several tackles 9 yards down the field (forsett and tate), theres no reason that should be the case and it falls on Heyward/Worilds.
Jarvis Jones was good against the run and on pace for like 9-10 sacks...his edge setting ability has been missed, but even when he was playing well they would just run right towards worilds.
As far as pressure goes, i agree about the zone blitz, no argument there at all....run defending though, Mcclendon has been rock solid, cam heyward has been shaky at best, worilds has been flat out horrible, and cam thomas has been a step below worilds.
The defense actually plays well on 2nd/3rd and long....the problem is they are getting 2nd/3rd and shorts constantly and not doing anything surprising with the zone runsComment

I agree, people still blaming the nose tackle for not stopping a zone stretch run clearly do not understand the concept. Stopping the zone stretch is not a matter of the lineman pushing up the field, its a matter of sliding lateral and filling gaps, the NT can only do so much when the running back is getting the edge.Hood was the opposite of weak, his functional strength wasnt amazing but he was far from weak.
