In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

If they liked him better than Moats he would have been on the squad already. They would have called him when he flew to AZ like they did Beard.

There is no question Moats starts this week. If he JH winds up starting it will be because he beat Moats out.......the only way that happens is if he impresses greatly in spot duty. Is that not a good thing?

      Why does this worry people?
Because they'll start someone who knows the plays but is incapable physically of executing them over someone who makes the odd mistake now and then because he hasn't swallowed the playbook.

Moats is the same age as Worilds and only 1.5 years older than Jarvis. He is in the 3-4 for the first time and all indications are that it better suits his skill set. I'd like to see him grow in the position while JJ is out.

I just fear that the first time he makes the wrong read, LeBeau will panic and hook him for his comfortable slippers.

The better player will earn the most playing time. Exactly how many OLBs do you think this team has? If he gets "hooked", it will not be because of an isolated play or two and it will not mean that he toils away on the bench. There is nobody else to sit behind aside from Garvin. We signed Moates for depth in the first place, not with visions of being a starter. If he happens to show starter capability during this opportunity, then I would chalk that up as a good problem to have and not worry about him losing playing time to Jimmy Hate.

How do you know that? The last time we saw Harrison playing OLB in a 3-4 defense, he was playing some pretty good ball. We are not looking for a long-term answer between these guys...unless you are thinking that Moates has the capability to unseat Jones as the starter after he returns.

Right now, we are looking for someone who can step in and set the edge and pressure the QB on a rotational basis. Provide one name in the football universe that would be better suited for the task at hand. Just one.

Well I thought we would go young and just bring Howard Jones up from the practice squad. Well I've been wrong before. Since James is here lets just embrace it and see what he's got left.

I don't think I would go as far as classifying James Harrison as 'incapable physically of executing'. The man is a legendary alpha male.

Not only did you say Moats "looked better", you said Jones play was "decent" not exactly glowing tone here. Or did I ASSume that one too?

My comment here that you took issue with are WAY (yes I sad WAY again) more consistent with YOUR comments there than you are here.

Seriously I read your Moats comment BEFORE I saw the game (I was working during) and recalled it when I saw it (said wow Shawn was right I my head). THAT is why find it hilarious that you are taking me to task over a thought you planted in my head.
I wouldn't call a sack and a FF ALL World. So yes decent is what I described. He was around the ball, was harassing the QB, got a sack and a FF. If you extrapolate his stats out over a season it would be a good season. He isn't the slug some of you are making him out to be...and I do think Moats is a bit underrated. I love the guys explosion. I love the way he plays with some urgency. I was really impressed from his limited play.

30 tackles and 2 sacks with the Bengals...he is 36. I mean maybe he gets back into our system and blows up for another year but I'm not holding my breath. I would like to see more of the young guys...but if Harrison can win the job so be it.

with the bengals in a 4-3. He is coming back to his natural position and he is a young 36. I think he has another year in him.

36 yrs old and only starting since age 29. 7 hrs of LB wear is not a lot in the NFL....

He was a "pass rushing specialist". 2 sacks.

A lot of teams play a 3-4 and if had game left, he would have been on a team. Injuries take their toll. He's had back and knee injures, not good for a guy who relies on leverage.

I bet Joe Flacco just got less comfortable about the next Steelers game.

I thought it was the other way around and he was used in run support.
