The situation changed. Once they got Wilson then the facts changed. If this indeed got Pickett's panties twisted then that is just further proof that he doesn't have the mental toughness to be a franchise QB.

Read what Bradshaw went through with Noll. Pickett would have had an emotional breakdown if he had to endure that.

He could say no and go to UFA.

We'd for sure want to talk before trading him.

Since a deal hasn't happened, this could be part of it (him not being interested in a low cost extension instead of the 5th year option)
Doubt Fields is in on any discussions with teams at this point. He's under contract and CHI is just playing the 'wait it out' game for some desperate team to pony up a king's ransom, or at least a 2nd rd pick. And after the Steelers kahn'd them with Claypool I'm sure they would like nothing better than to stick it back.

The one major red flag on Fields for me; he's the anti-Pickett in the 4th quarter and crunch time, 3 TDs and 10 INTs when trailing with <4 minutes. They will get Tomlin's panties in a bunch.

But maybe idk, like I said I wouldn't be surprised if Eagles end up trading him to another team.
The Eagles were willing to give up the third round pick for a backup quarterback. Any team that is looking for a starting quarterback probably wasn't interested in Pickett. Pickett's market was as a backup. I think the Steelers did about as good as they were going to do with Pickett based off of his performance for 2 years. Pickett simply wasn't a quarterback you could lean on when needed or, at least, that's what it seemed like.

We complain that the Steelers hold on to high draft picks too long, then they move away from one quickly and we're complaining that they didn't get enough. They got what the market was offering. He wasn't going to lead the Steelers to a deep playoff run or Super Bowl while Watt and Minkah are in their prime. Khan made the moves he thinks will not only get the Steelers into the playoffs but possibly a run at the title.

I agree that it was understandable that he was upset (when he got beat out by Mason, then when we brought in Wilson).

But the priority is to make the team better. And even if we get Wilson from 2 years ago, we probably did that.

And the QB play has been bad for multiple seasons.

Damn right I want traded. They are treating him like Rudolph. No way I would stick with an organization who just lied to me.

Things change so I don?t blame our FO for grabbing Russ but if this is how you do it.. I?ll find another team to be a backup on.

Now we have Russ and who else? We screwed this up if Russ doesn?t knock it out the park. Guess we are now drafting Penix or.. gulp, Nix or JJ??? Maybe we gamble this year and draft a QB next year in the first?

If it works Khan is a genius. If not, oh boy?
They are treating him like Rudolph because Rudolph ended up being the better option at the end of the year.

My big resistance on getting Fields is that 5th year option. But, is it possible to trade for him and get him to sign an extension with roster bonuses... i.e., look like a deal he'd want, but give the team a chance to feel him out on the cheap?

Why ask to be moved if you are backing up a 36 yr old QB? Sit and learn for a season (it didn't seem to hurt Jordan Love's game). If anything the team took the low road by trading him to the Eagles. Eagles reached out to the Steelers, not the other way around if you read the latest reports.

As far as why players like Tomlin, I honestly am starting to wonder that myself, it sure isn't because he puts them in the best position to succeed. I think because he's more of a pal than a coach.

Contradicts the above. Isn't Fields someone who failed elsewhere? I don't want a player that another team wants rid of. We already have one of those in Wilson.

And riddle me this; if Tomlin is such a liar to players how is it he gets high marks from nearly everyone that plays for him?

The contrast between how Pickett handled himself compared to Rudolph is stark. If anything, Rudolph was treated worse but never took the low road.

i hope kenny tears it up with the eagles. wilson is just another one of tomlins home boys.
wilson is a has been now. this will not make them any better than they were last year.
he cant move around like when he was younger and the line isn`t any better. i can see him on his ass
just as much as kenny was. steelers got away with this with ben because it was hard to bring him down
and he was big enough to take a good hit & keep on ticking. kenny on the other hand is small and could`nt
take the pounding so he threw the ball in fear at times. not happy with this event at all.

and you may have been able to get more value if Kenny wants out after camp and another team had an injury?

    Oh well..

but this does make it obvious QB will be drafted or we make a play for Fields.

I'm disappointed with how things went with Kenny. I have to admit, I became a bit of a homer and KP8 fan after we drafted him. I'm a Pitt alum and it just felt like a perfect story and he seemed like a generally great kid. But I do feel some sense of relief that we've cleaned the slate. I really couldn't take much more of this utterly pathetic offense. There was a LOT of blame to go around and just about anyone you could point a finger at, is gone. Other than Tomlin.

There's really no place to go, other than up, for this offense.
