In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher -
Pgh was 26th in PPG with 18.1 PPG. Since offense's job is to score, and they came in at 26th, I'd say it's safe to say they SUCKED on offense. And if they don't pump up to 26 PPG or so, nothing else matters. Can they improve by 8 PPG? They had better.

You guys act like what we saw last year is with an offensive line that struggled with cohesion early, a ARB who started the season clearly injured, a backup caliber QB, and a raw rookie who did not even work with the ones, is a ceiling that is set in stone.
Nothing you said negates anything I said in my previous post.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 03-29-2023, 12:54 PM.sigpic

Playcalling and scheme has to get better, too. He can't be consistently asked to fit balls into tight windows to blanketed receivers because the first and second down runs failed.
Also, it's OK to score outside the red zone, something that is anathema to the design of this offense.
The Steelers offense isn't designed to score points, it's designed to burn clock, play for FGs, hope for TDs.Comment

The offense has been shyte for two seasons. How many points came late in games when the plan was scrapped?
I think it would be a safe bet that if Canada had been fired, nobody else would have hired him as an OC. And we're putting our franchise QB's first two years in his hands.Last edited by WindyCitySteel; 03-29-2023, 01:37 PM.Comment

I’m probably the biggest Kenny fan on here and I was called a Tomlin/Canada defender for saying Kenny was responsible for some of those bad RZ passes.Steelers 27

Our way is unique from every other nfl team.
We are the standard. Teams all want to be like us but can’t.
We draft totally different than any other team. We look for ‘steeler types’ that excel at producing fgs.
The Steelers call them ‘tweeners’. Somewhere between not scoring at all and scoring touchdowns. How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

Are you counting KP's TD runs? And yes, I would expect Kenny not to be up to a HOF'er's level or a 6-year vet's level as a rookie, but at no point during the last two seasons was this offense very good, across multiple QBs.

You do know that he has the same record as Tomlin since he’s been here?Last edited by whatever; 03-29-2023, 03:27 PM.How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

I'm not defending Canada or his offense. But who do you think gets more credit, the OC or the QB, for the offensive trend below (2022 data)?

I think Tomlin happily settles for them and plays it safe when in the red zone, hoping for someone to make a play. They don't scheme anything open, it's a high school level offense.Comment

I actually don’t disagree with anything you just said. We need to score way more to compete for a championship.

But guess what happens in 2023? Those same old excuses don't mean jack shlt. So when our offenses sputters and Cool Shades feel all good about winning games 17-13, our weak PPG is gonna catch up and known of the Cool Shades quick silver tongue and quaint quips are going to save us. Improving from 18 PPG to 20 PPG ain't gonna mean jack shlt. And then you and the excuse group will be left without your "but our QB didn't start camp with the ones" and move onto new excuses such as "but our QB got hurt" or that "the OC is fail." We might even make the playoffs but will not win a game. And then we will have to hear about "one step at a time."
But all the while Tomlin will be playing with fear and trying to win with D and not screwing up on offense.Last edited by whisper; 03-30-2023, 01:32 PM.Comment

Need to see it play out. If Kenny is hitting open guys because of scheme, Canada gets the credit. If he's making plays to overcome the scheme, Kenny does. If it happens, it will likely be a combination of both.Comment
