He still is one of the top offensive minds out there, but the guy is a tad eccentric.

We all found out how good Kevin O'Connell was this year in Minnesota; Notice how Jefferson was moved all around that offense like Kupp was in 2021? Rams were very innovative when they had both McVay and O'Connell.

yup, McVay is the Rams OC and was calling the plays both last and this season.

what changed was the Rams OL was decimated by injuries this season. players are just as important as coaching.

He learned from McVay to be honest. Look at his Washington stint where his offense was putrid,

“I feel like I’ve been around one of the best play callers in the NFL over the last couple years [in McVay], and obviously the system we run here will have a lot of characteristics of what we did in Los Angeles, the ability to have that attacking mindset, the ability to utilize our offense at the line of scrimmage,” O’Connell said. “With that, you have to have ownership of what you’re doing to call it, you have to have ownership of what you’re doing at the quarterback position to run the offense, and I feel very strongly about the circumstances and situation here to be really prepared to do that.”
O’Connell praised McVay as the kind of team leader he wants to be.

like every coach, McVay is better when he has the players necessary to execute.

this past season, the OL was riddled with injuries and it's hard to have an effective offense when you can't block.

Yes coaches need players to execute their schemes and playcalls, but the best of them don't need elite players all over the offense for success. Some can do more with less, and it's been this way for decades.

                    You are so wrong.

I can show you the history of the NFL and point out the many "schemes" that won games and championships. Could be offensive schemes or defensive schemes.

Coaches are teachers. They teach their players what's required to win games vs the opposition. Can the teams execute on the teachings and studies?

Sometimes the oppositions strengths or weaknesses have a great or bad game. Many factors come into play when a game is being played. The reasons why the 70s Steelers loss games in the playoffs were due to injuries. Many factors.

My final stance regardless of player performance, mistakes, schemes, is that execution regardless of schemes win games.

Folks, focus on the execution. It will become clear to you. Everything else is just for talking heads. Oh he is so great because his team won. Why did the other team lose? Mistakes and poor execution. The winner and greatness is where the experts and talking heads focus.

Yes IF you have a GOAT level QB. Those are extremely rare.

Some coaches can go on consistent deep playoff runs, even win a SB sometimes which is a difficult achievement, without a HOF-type QB. Some can have a HOF-type QB and taste very little success with him.

The fact that some coaches are better with the same level of talent, or better even with less talent has been indisputable for awhile now. Any other thought process is equivalent to still believing the earth is flat.
