Kenny Clutch

One of the big factors that separates championship QB's from other QB's are the intangibles. The competitiveness, the clutch factor, pocket presence, etc. Either a QB has it or they don't, Smith didn't have it imo. KP might actually possess these intangibles which is what is exciting for me.Comment

Alex Smith had 1 TD and 11 INT’s his rookie year. Its an insult to use Alex Smith as a ceiling given his first year compared to Kenny.Steelers 27

Also..Smith played 3 years in college vs. Kenny's 5. So I think it seems pretty reasonable that he wasn't as good as Kenny has been as a rookie since Kenny is more experienced and older / more mature.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 01-05-2023, 03:46 PM.Comment

and yes, when someone says Kenny might be an Alex Smith that is their ceiling. What sense does it
make to imply Kenny might be Alex Smith on the second floor?Last edited by feltdizz; 01-05-2023, 06:00 PM.Steelers 27

Pickett played in 4 games and threw 66 passes.
If Kenny's first year in college doesn't count, Smith's counts less than nothing.
Total college passes:
- Pickett 1674
- Smith 587
Remember how "NFL ready" was the name of the game with Pickett? I wonder how many guys threw as many passes in NCAA ball as he did?
And none of this is bad. But I think it means the "his rookie year was much better than Smith's, so it's an insult to compare them" doesn't hold as much water as people might think at first glance.
IMO, it makes sense to pick a good (not great) QB as a comp because it sets more reasonable expectations (although most QBs won't have a career as good as Smith's). Then if a guy gets to that level, I think it makes sense to bust out the big comparisons.
But that's just me. Some like putting the big dream on guys I guess...Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 01-05-2023, 09:53 PM.Comment

I think most people who know what's what say that he STAYED in college for 5 years... I think they don't think he made an impact playing football for five years... They admire the fact that he stayed and played meaningful snaps in his 5th year...Comment

I'm late to the party on this thread, but... this is the first thing i noticed about the kid (and said as much around these parts).
You of all people probably recall me jumping in asking if there was room on that bandwagon early on because of me noticing that he had the clutch gene2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment
