Kenny Clutch

Why do you ignore when I already said in this thread: Come on Shawn NOBODY is implying THAT.
You, me, Dizz, North (coast or blizt), none of us "know" how good Kenny will be.
I also said: "I would suggest it is "unlikely" he will be THAT good."

Which is why I already said in this thread:
Joe Montana is accurate and cool under pressure, with well known arm strength limitations. So I suggested there is no basis for limiting Kenny based on traits of "a top 5 QB". Brady also does not have the greatest arm, but Kenny moves and looks more like Montana.
I would suggest it is "unlikely" he will be THAT good.
But don't tell me Andy Dalton is Kennys ceiling, that he CANNOT be a franchise guy based on physical traits that are no different than Joe Montana.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

My point is not that Kenny WILL BE the next Joe Montana. That is a strawman argument to bypass the point.
We are seeing traits in Kenny that look like Montana. Those mental traits made Montana a BETTER QB than the most physically gifted QBs. It is exciting to see that, because those are the traits overcome physical limits in the greatest to play the position.
It IS a small sample size. There is no way to KNOW either way. I ALSO suggested on this forum that Kenny "might" be a Kellen Moore. (I think he has clearly surpassed that already)
But just as we cannot KNOW whether he ever be elite, you cannot dismiss that POSSIBILITY on the basis of a lack of physical gifts that THE BEST QBs EVER don't have either.
The most accomplished quarterbacks of our lifetimes have the same physical limitations that you say will keep Kenny from being a franchise QB.
You want me to wait to give him a gold jacket? How bout we wait before writing him off as being physically incapable of greatness when the greatest of all time share those same physical traits?

The folks who call him Andy Dalton or Alex Smith NEVER imagined he would have 2 game winning drives during the last minute of 2 must win games.
People on here said it was Big Ben-ish type drives and we all know KP is not a Big Ben type QB.Steelers 27

and Mitch found a way to throw 3 INT’s the other week, smh.First, two game winning drives doesn't make KP Montana or Brady. He hasn't won a playoff game or a SB. He hasn't done it when the lights are brightest. But, yes the arrow is pointing up when it comes to his poise and clutch. Saying he has the same stuff as two of the greatest is getting wayyyy ahead of yourself. How about we take a deep breath, root for our team and KP and pray he can pass for more than 200 yards in a playoff game before giving him a yellow jacket.
Edit-Did you know the Ravens pass D is 24th in passing yards allowed and 25th for passing completion?
I blame Canada!!!Steelers 27

This is the obvious problem with using all time greats as comps. You walked into this Cap.My point is not that Kenny WILL BE the next Joe Montana. That is a strawman argument to bypass the point.

It's why I hate how it happens all the time in draft seasonComment

But people throw around these comps based on physical traits all the time. Willis is one of the most raw prospects ever but Allen and Mahomes are routinely cited as his ceiling. Why not Jamarcus Russell or JT Barrett?Comment

I think people use all time greats because the hope is a player, especially a first round QB becomes great and not the next Alex Smith or Andy Dalton
Not sure why more people aren’t reminded of Ben these last 2 games when watching Pickett. He’s nothing like Ben physically of course but last minute drives for the win in must win games???? That is Ben all day.
Pickett is breaking the pocket and making things happen after the initial play breaks down at critical times in both games.Steelers 27

I will repeat to you the context AGAIN.
People were suggesting Alex Smith types as his CEILING based on physical limitations.
Why are people putting THAT kind of cap on him when the best ever have those same limitations?
I suggested Joe Montana as a "ceiling" based on that same argument. In that original context I ALSO suggested he might be a Kellen Moore as a floor.
You cannot logically limit his ceiling AT ALL based on physical traits of the GOATS. THAT is the point of bringing them up.
I NEVER ONCE PREDICTED HE WILL BE JOE MONTANA.
I take ownership of what I say.
I do not "own" someone spinning what I said to try to win a debate that I won with 100 percent unrefutable logic.
The EXACT SAME FLAWED REASONING used by people to limit Kenny would suggest Montana and Brady could never be great. History has proven this thinking to be wrong.
That FACT holds true even if Kennys career crashes and burns starting next Sunday.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 01-04-2023, 09:44 AM.sigpic

I know. It's stupid IMO.
Or at least reserved for guys who were very elite in college.
But it's like 3rd round guys at draft time. Just trying to drum up hype.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 01-04-2023, 11:09 AM.Comment

But when you invoke the name of one of the best ever, people will always think that's what you're saying.
That's part of the comp, right? To be provocative.Comment
