    My thoughts onePickett.

Just a half of game, but WOW did the Steelers offense and fans respond. It seems like Kenny has innate leadership and a playing style involving throwing it deep and over the middle. The guys respond to it. You can't measure leadership. He has " it " . He makes up his mind quickly and locates the open man. He throws well on the run too. And he can get outside run for yardage, picking up first downs. His arm? Well, the deep pass to Claypool was under thrown and showed a below-average arm, but we deal with that later. It is unfortunate that the receivers cause the interceptions and two of them we not on the QB.

More on how Pickett transforms the offense over Trudsiky. ( spelled that way unpurpose ).

Pickens has come alive. He's our #1 receiver now
, not the overpaid and inconsistent-handed Johnson. He's the # 2 receiver. Pickens will bring the big play ability to the team. The Steelers badly need that. Not that Johnson is bad at what he does, but we need short passing too, and he is quick and runs nice routes. And we have a talented tight end who will be given a chance now to operate over the middle, giving defenses another thing to think about. This is a re-birth of the Steelers offense, Trubisky plays not to lose for the entire game! Fantasy geeks might want to pick up our new #1 receiver and dangerous tight end if they are available. I didn't mention Harris is the passing game. His cactches are going down. Good, he wasn't a real factor anyway. And Claypool is at best or 4th option but Pickett will give the big and fast but can't separate an inconstant receiver to do his best stuff.

Pickett is a rookie, so he's going to make mistakes. Tomlin should take off the training wheels on him at let him play and develop, er I mean Canada and the other coaches. I didn't see Tomlin talking to his rookie at all! I saw a man in dark shades chewing gum, making it harder for one-on-one communication with the players. That's lack of sideline coaching.

Anyway, I don't care about losing to the Jets. Buffalo is next, and 1-4 will be a death sentence for our playoff chances. The season is pretty much lost, but the offense is going to be better, and as Pickett develops, so will the Steelers.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

Pickett is communicating with the coaches that work on offense. Why would he need to talk to Tomlin when he needs to talk to Canada or the QB coach?

I agree with everything else. I think Claypool will get more chances to redeem himself but anyone who rewatched that pass saw Claypool short arm it instead of going up and getting it. He isn’t a top 3 WR. Top 3 WR’s go get that pass.

DJ had a bad game, claimed the ball was tipped at the LOS but he still needs to catch that or at least knock it down and not tip drill it for the defense. 3 INT’s off of deflections.

    Catch the damn ball!!!

I’m excited for the KP era. You could feel the energy and guys stepping up on offense. I sat up.. hell, I stood up when we were on offense once Kenny was inserted.

That ball is coming out hot and guys need to go get it. That pass over the middle to Muth was a thing of beauty.

I'm excited too. You would expect the head coach to have a word with the new QB coming in though. I think Pickett will bring our skill players to life with his playing style and attacking the field but he's a rookie with a lot to learn. It hard to judge if a player is going to be well liked by his teammates but Pickett offers that type of leadership, charisma, and enthusiasm...I think. He wasn't my pick for round one. None of the qb's were but I'm off that talking point for now. Go Pickett!

I noticed early in the 1st hald that KP was standing on the sidelines talking to Tomlin during the game. I think he was coaching him up then and I think the plan was laid to get him into the game already at that point.

We only see what the cameras show us. Unless you were at the game you have no idea if they spoke but IMO that isn’t important.

What is important is protecting the football.

What’s important is besides the INT’s Kenny was 10/10 and converted 6/6 on 3rd down.

I agree, KP is a leader and you saw that edge that he plays with. Dude is a baller. Now its up to these WR’s to ball out with him because he is going to give them chances to make plays. This is what they wanted right?

Well, make some plays Claypool and DJ.

what i found *most* interesting about the game was watching them attempt with MT to go beyond 5 yards with passes and he kept missing - but even that opened up the run a little.
KP came in and hit the WR on those passes.
I can't wait to see him grow the rest of this season... this is going to be a fun ride...

I think it will be fun to watch the KP8 era. He is definitely the spark we need.

With that being said I think the leash has to be short on a few of the WRs, especially Claypool. He has the physical traits but is just not a polished receiver.

Also, I think the bloom is off Gunnar's rose. Dude just don't have it.

I'd like to see a little more Boykin to help Kenny and Simms as well, especially on all kick and punt returns.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

It's also odd (if the story is true) that Pickett had no reps in practice on Friday. You would think the coach would have given him at least a few snaps if he had any thoughts of playing Pickett. Almost seems knee jerk that he was inserted in this game.

Up next is Play action and screen plays that are well timed to our backs. The tv obviously has a conspiracy not to show Tomlin offer sideline coaching ...all 15 seasons worth of it. At least on offense. Never mind the other coaches will talk to Pickett.

It's still real early but I like what I'm seeing from KP. He is showing key intangibles that you either have or you don't have - pocket presence, fairly calm in the face of pressure, super competitive. I'm also impressed with the placement of his passes and his arm strength is surprising me that Hail Mary was like at least 60 yards. From what I saw of him in college I didn't think his arm would look this good in the NFL tbh but that's why I'm not a scout lol.

The frustrating thing is once again the coaching though, he needs better coaches to reach his potential, it's not happening under Canada (and arguably Tomlin).

That's why I'm not too excited. Canada is a joke of an OC. We need a real, legit OC.

Again, I didn’t see anything wrong with our game plan once KP was inserted.

10/10 for 100+ yards and 2 rushing TD’s by the QB. Personally, if KP doesn’t have those weird tipped INT’s we win this game.

I think KP has the head and arm to make this offense look much better. Not sure how anyone wouldn’t be excited about the future.

I actually think this offense looks ripe for the “Pickens”

I like what I saw, more important to me was the swagger or confidence he shows. Only a few years at this point are needed to see what we have, is he the franchise guy or just a guy. Will be fun finding out, no doubt. I will say this if the players around Mitch were not playing at the same intensity or energy then they can all take a hike, you don't hold back on a teammate or team. As far as fans not supporting the QB well that's what fans do no real stock in that.
