Sure they talk about Bradys 505 in a loss. You just did.

+1. Pickett has not had a NFL game where he threw for 500+ yards and 5 TD's.We all know if Pickett had the exact game Ben had vs Jax you would praise him big time. Hell Pickett may never even have a pro game as good as Ben had vs Jax that you criticize.....if it was reversed you'd say hell Pickett passed for over 500 yards & 5 tds against the number 1 Defense and just 1 INT what more do you want for him....and that sack fumble retuirn for a TD well that's on the offensive line for not blocking better. It's the defenses job make some stops!!! like you just said about D vs 49ers. If they can make a stop after a shanked punt why can't they make a stop on Ben's only INT of playoff game vs Jax???? HMMMM??? That's their job right you just said? And Jax offense sucked unlike 49ers offense
Any poster who go out their way to attack Ben are ( insert word ). He was banned in this forum before you know.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

There's more than dizz on this forum that believe the Jags game was on Roethlisberger, me included. He might have had the game and comeback of his career if they had one more quarter of play. But no comeback would have been needed if he didn't have the start that he did.Comment

Why don?t we talk about it?
Oh yeah, 70 pass attempts and 4 INT?s.
When you give teams the ball early and have to throw out the playbook due to being behind early the ONLY time a QB is celebrated is if the team comes back and wins the game.
No one gives a damn about stats when you fall short.Steelers 27

I wasn?t the one who brought up Ben.
Its something you guys keep doing to live in the ghosts of the Jags loss of the past.
the hell cares if I was unfairly put on a time out 5 years ago for defending the team from trolls?Steelers 27

Use the scoreboard to take away the opposition's running game is a pretty basic football strategy. Not sure why some people forget that the order of events matters in the NFL.Ben also threw for 500 yards and 4 TD?s in a playoff loss against Cleveland.

This is just the opposite side of the TJ got a DTD argument.Well ok at least you admit it. If PFT judges a players performance in a game they don't have handicaps based on experience & if they might go in the hall of fame. It's just bad, average, good, great etc.....taking away the name Ben Roethlisberger no one in their right mind would look at his performance vs Jax playoffs game & say he had a bad game. Like i said before you use biases.
It's because it was Big Ben you expected perfection. I thought the opposite being vs the #1 D in the nfl he over perormed what i expected. Could have done without the INT & sack fumble but hey Bradshaw had those in Superrbowls & was named MVP. And hey if Ben was allowed to QB sneak on two 4th & 1s we might have had 60+ points but he wasn't allowed.
I don't know this for sure, but if the answer to "did a team get a DTD?" is "yes", that might be the single best predictor of wins in the NFL. I think the win% with a DTD is over 90%. It is a huge deal when the defense scores.
But since the answer is almost always "no", things like turnover ratio and (turnovers + explosiveplays) are more applicable.
Ben has some absolutely jaw-dropping play in the playoffs. Particularly early in his career.
But most of the games where people say he's a big reason for the loss are games where he was responsible for DTDs on the other side. In particular the Jags game and the Packers game. I guess the other sub-type here are games like the Browns game (or the in-season Jags game in the same year) where Bad Ben shows up and he has a ridiculous number of turnovers.
This is who Ben was. A guy who on any given night could be just so much better than any player had any right to be AND a guy who had an abnormal number of just terrible outcomes. This is why he was compared to Favre his entire career. Because Farve was the same Jeckyll and Hyde.
Think of how people remember Mendenhall for the fumble against the Packers in the SB. But few people seem to remember that Ben fumbled in the Jags game. And that fumble had more important on the game because and it went for a DTD (we lost by less than 7). But it happened early, so people forget.
In the near-annual post about some stupid tweet Mendenhall puts out, there is always at least on poster on here who has forgotten that Ben threw a pick-6 in that game (we lost by less than 7). But again, this happened early. So people forget about it even though it's more impactful than the Mendenhall fumble (which also sucked, shouldn't have happened, and we probably win without it).
DTDs almost always win games.
That's why it shows how hilariously bad our O is because we needed two of them to win against the Browns. Or how overmatched we were in the KC playoffs because we got a DTD and the game wasn't even close.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 09-21-2023, 09:07 AM.Comment

I'm just not impressed with being down 21 points in the first quarter or 28 points in the first quarter with multiple turnovers and then throwing for a gang of yards with 60 and 70 pass attempts. This is just the opposite side of the TJ got a DTD argument.

It's great for fantasy stat lines but not for efficiency and winning football.Steelers 27

It's not garbage stats when you bring your team to within 28-21 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd. What is garbage is the D folding like a lawn chair after that to Blake Bortles.I'm just not impressed with being down 21 points in the first quarter or 28 points in the first quarter with multiple turnovers and then throwing for a gang of yards with 60 and 70 pass attempts.

Was Frank Reich's comeback vs. Houston just a garbage time performance?Comment

yes, we did it in 2021 vs KC. Watt had a sack and a TD.
The offense couldn't get passed the 50 until the third quarter.
but I don't even know how we got here. The whole debate in the thread started with excusing the defenses for giving up a TD on the first drive of the season because SF started at their own 40. Makes no sense.Steelers 27
