What if you made FGs worth different amounts based on length.

What if you eliminated FGs altogether. I personally get annoyed how easy it is to quickly get in field position to tie a game with a FG with almost no time remaining.

What if all TOs had to be used before the 2 min warning?
I don't know if I like the idea, but "you have to win by 4" makes FGs less appealing in OT.

I think making FGs different points for different lengths would be too much of a change at the NFL level. On one hand, it would add some additional strategy I guess (take a penalty to move 5 yards back and get more points?). But on the other, it feels like a reward for being bad (i.e. offense couldn't move in).

I don't think they should do this, but if they changed how many points FGs were worth, I think it would be better to give more points for shorter FGs than longer ones (maybe 1 pt for 50+, 2 pts for 35 - 49, 3 pts inside 35). Then, there's less incentive to settle for a long FG and more incentive to get in closer. But not additional incentive to kick a FG from the 5 instead of going for the TD.

But I wouldn't want to put that into play without seeing what it looks like in the NCAA (or more likely something like the XFL). Eliminating FGs might also be kind of interesting to see in a minor league or the CFL or something.

I think getting rid of timeouts in the last two minutes would make the games faster (which the league probably doesn't want because it costs them ad breaks). But it would also reduce the number of comebacks, which are exciting.

It was absolutely a topic then. The Chiefs proposed a rule change that was voted down.

That's why I don't like knee-jerk reactions. The rule is good when it benefits your team but bad when it benfits the other. We go this route every team that complains rules will be changed ad nauseum.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

in KC’s defense they may still hate the rule but its the rule they have to play by.

Therein lies the rub. Too many what ifs for every possible situation. I like the current setup. Just cause an offense doesn't get a chance at the ball doesn't mean it isn't good. (but I like defense so there is that).
