He's going through something that's gotta be tough for anyone, let alone a 23 year-old kid. He's also a professional football player who needs to show some fortitude and pick his game up. These are not mutually exclusive positions. I'm not going to start throwing rocks at him but if he can't start to show some improvement, I hope we bring in some legitimate competition in the offseason.

Same thing with Tuitt...only worse. The only empathy I have for him is as a human being. I have no use for any grown man who curls up in a ball and can't meet the expectations so many have of him. It's been what...six months now since his brother died? Are we supposed to just feel sad for him and be okay that he's left everyone hanging...without so much as a word? Am I now supposed to feel like less of a person because my empathy for him as a person doesn't excuse his complete absence from the team and city?

Anyway, I get both sides and feel both sides. Last time I checked, I still qualify as a person.
Wait - let me clarify one thing. I'm saying people act like the PLAYERS aren't people. I'm not saying that the folks here aren't people.

I'm just pointing out that as with any of us, if you have a sh*t show going on in life, it's hard to show up at work and focus, regardless of your job. We work through it and so should Harvin.

As a random aside that I'd like to call attention to: Simone Biles quitting during the Olympics will forever change the trajectory of sports. Shortly thereafter, it happened at the French Open with Naomi Osaka. I wouldn't be surprised if Tuitt's absence is similar in that regard. Presently, Ben Simmons is taking a mental break from the 76ers. We're all going to be TICKED, but I see this becoming more common.

there was a player who admitted he thought about suicide recently. We have no idea of the oressure going on in some of these athletes lives.

Everyone sees the money and fame but most simply can’t see that money and fame can also trap you.

I know.. I would love to be trapped like that but seriously, when your job is public and every mistake is shown in slow motion while fans are tweeting how you suck in real time.. it has to take a toll.

and Simone Biles is a bit different. Her sport can easily end in paralysis once you get the bends or whatever its called.

I think athletes are finally realizing they have the power to say NO.

Thanks Buzz and Hawaiian for the kind words. This place is like an extended family. We probably won’t know much until after the chemo treatments begin shortly after the holiday.

I probably won’t be on much over Christmas so happy holidays to The Planet!….and beat KC.

He's a fan favorite because he doesn't look like the stereotypical professional punter. He's kind of pudgy ... he looks more like a regular guy ... like the folks you see in the neighborhood on a day-to-day basis ... maybe a lot like what you see when you look in the mirror. We root for fellas like that to do well. I've been critical of him, but I'd love for him to do well for that reason (but more, because it would help our team out).

Either that, or Steelers fans stuff the ballot box with votes for their punter, while fans of other teams ignore theirs.
Pat McAfee has also hyped him up a few times on his show after some of his outrageously good kicks, which has to help.

To be honest, I can't name another team's punter at this point aside from Jordan Berry in Minnesota. Some of that is a function of me not playing the more recent Madden games but there used to be some personalities out there at least (Marquette King, McAfee). I know Andy Lee is still out there somewhere and I think Colquitt came back after the Steelers cut him but no idea who either of them plays for.

This is from #Steelers rookie punter Pressley Harvin III, who was booed yesterday. I wish we didn’t need reminders that we don’t ever really know the whole of someone’s challenges. Or that it’s a lot easier to show kindness and grace than the opposite. 💛 to the Harvin family.

Too many make the Steelers the controlling factor on whether they are happy or miserable. They are a team most of us love but there are so many more things in life worth so much more.

That conversation may have happened and he said he wanted to be there for the team. I know when my father was in a nursing home and in failing health and I travelled back to Pittsburgh to visit he would be more worried and upset about me not focusing on my job. Just from the generation that was wired that way

Two other things - regardless of the situation with his father, Harvin is the holder on kicks. Don't want to mess with that in a playoff run.

Secondly, I'm guessing the PS punter, Chrisman, is there in case of injury only. He's never punted in the NFL and was one of those run around and kick directional line drive guys at Ohio State. The knock on him was hang time.
