    Insight on Harvin

    Father diagnosed with terminal illness.

Steelers brought him to the Titans game and had him on the sideline. Class act by the organization

    May explain lack of focus

Agree with the "class act by the organization" statement.

As far as your take on Harvin? I've seen him perform inconsistently through the season ... what explains his lack of focus in the other games?

He has been very inconsistent but he is by far the least of the wors of our 6 losses and a tie. We expect better but he hasn't cost a game. He hasn't fumbled, throen an int, missed a FG, missed a block,, hasn't been part of the historically bad run defense. His best punt was downed at the 1. Only to see the defense give up a 99yd drive to the Ravens.

Perspective is key here. Prayers to the Harvin family. I am sure he wanted nothing more than to have his best performance with his father on the sideline. Life throws curves. A piece of him is dying on the inside. As much as I complained about his punts during the game. Now knowing the deal I have much respect for him dealing with that.

        Perspective.

I was responding to the initial post, which said Harvin may have lost focus in the Tennessee game because his terminally ill dad was sitting there in the stands.

Look, inconsistency was the knock on Harvin coming out of college. My point is simply that lack of focus is nothing new for him. Of course, I wish nothing but a full recovery for his old man. I just don't happen to think his sickness or presence at the game likely had anything to do with his son's poor showing.

The inconsistency couldn't have been too terrible - he was the Ray Guy award winner as the nations best punter, averaging 48 yards per punt (ACC Conference record) - about half of those punts traveled over 50 yards in the air. He was an inconsistent stud

Back on topic, cancer isn't a one-day thing - even if he was recently diagnosed to be terminally ill, there have been at a minimum several weeks of doctors visits. For all we know, this has lasted all season. If I was dealing with a very sick parent, I can't say I'd be the best at my job day in and day out.

I'm just suggesting that we show a little grace and not kick the guy when he's down. That's all

I’m sure he wasn’t diagnosed and on the sideline all in the same day.

More than likely Harvin was trying to kill the ball for his pops.

..., if it was my dad he would be kickin' my behind every game I shanked a punt, and telling me to get my head in the game...and don't use his illness as an excuse.

                      just sayin...

to dizz's point; coach needs to tell him to stop trying to murder the ball on every kick and just focus on connecting. No different than a batter at bat.

In other professions you take a leave of absence if you can't perform because of something like this. Heck, even Tuitt did in *this* profession.

It doesn't do anyone any good to have him underperforming on a weekly basis.

                          this isn’t how life works.

People underperform at their jobs everyday for a variety of reasons.

This...as someone who has had a family member deal with this and watch them go downhill, it sucks. You know something is bad for awhile and then you get the "terminal" diagnosis. I think that is what likely happened here.

Harvin made it to the pro’s so his fathers methods worked.

and Harvin never made any excuses.
