Me coming up with a fake field goal call that I personally approve is not connected in any way to the one we all witnessed yesterday. It is a good call or a bad call. MCHammer coming up with hypos has literally no effect on this. In a universe where I do not exist, the call is still horrible (or not if you are dumb). It is not about me and the attempt to make it about me is a misdirection ploy.
Im not saying it has to come from you or be hypothetical. "When is the right time to call a fake?" is the question. You are coming out saying it was obviously the wrong time to call the fake and we just want to know what criteria you used.

My posts have made clear why it was a bad call. It’s also obvious on its face. Changing the subject to make demands on me to come up with hypos is beyond lame. Let’s assume I can’t. I either oppose all fake FG attempts regardless of the situation or I am just whining in “hindsight” (which applies to every play anyone posts about ever good or bad). Neither scenario has any effect on the actual call yesterday.

Assume the worst about me. I’m dumb. I’m a Tomlin hater. I just like to complain. I’m not a real fan.

None of that has any bearing on whether the play call was wise or the boneheaded call most people think it was.

Misrepresenting what I’ve written is an odd choice. My advice is to stop digging. We would probably get along real well in real life. This isn’t personal. Stop trying to make it about me.

Thanks. I don’t post much and when I do, it is usually a criticism. But it’s constructive criticism in my mind. I don’t feel the need to celebrate what the Steelers do well by posting. In other words, take away the fake FG call and I have no complaints from Sunday.

Tomlin had the team ready to play. Ben played well enough. The OLine continued to improve which is probably the most important thing if this team is to have any chance. Najee is for real. Receivers and TEs showed up. Defense played well, with Cam and TJ having monster games. Very happy overall on my end.

Dude is the official “Ben police drop squad leader” running around asking everyone all these questions about Ben.

Since 2010 there have been a grand total of 4 passes completed by kickers. The proper time for a fake field goal is never.

Depends... how many attempts were there? We know Boz is 0.500. That's not bad odds.

I was also thinking since everyone and their mother knew how bad of a call it was that that could have made it a good call cause it was so unexpected.

It’s the whole fine line between idiot and genius. It was so dumb that if it worked, everyone would have thought it brilliant.

I personally hate most of the times Tomlin seems to listen to his gut.

I get that flippy. The funny thing is the Browns board is shredding Stefanski for his use of analytics. Somewhere in between there must be a happy state where all live in peace.

Overall I'd go with not ever liking the fake FG, especially when you have a super reliable kicker such as Bos. The other issue for me in this scenario was it was 4th and 9. That's long. I could maybe listen to an argument that it wasn't a horrible call if it's 4th and 2. For me, 4th and long means zero justification for the call. Take the points.

I totally agree and think the 4th and long should have made it even less expected.

Id also put a little of it on Boz. I seriously am surprised the coaches didn’t tell him to just get rid of the ball if you have an inkling of a chance you are gonna get hit. Ie don’t hold the ball like you’re young Ben trying to make a play.

That's the art of the fake right? Do it when they aren't expecting it. If he fools them and steals a td right before the half it would have put alot of pressure on the Browns with us getting the ball first in the second half.

9 yards isn’t a long pass for an NFL player on a gadget play.

but IMO its hilarious to hear people say we were close enough for a FG. Of course we were close enough but that is why we tried a fake.

It wasn’t because we didnt have faith in Boz.

It was because we have faith in Boz from 55 and in so why not gamble?

At least that is what I think the logic was at the time.
