Boneheaded Fake Field Goal

Assume the worst about me. I’m dumb. I’m a Tomlin hater. I just like to complain. I’m not a real fan.
None of that has any bearing on whether the play call was wise or the boneheaded call most people think it was.Comment

Misrepresenting what I’ve written is an odd choice. My advice is to stop digging. We would probably get along real well in real life. This isn’t personal. Stop trying to make it about me.Comment

Thanks. I don’t post much and when I do, it is usually a criticism. But it’s constructive criticism in my mind. I don’t feel the need to celebrate what the Steelers do well by posting. In other words, take away the fake FG call and I have no complaints from Sunday.
Tomlin had the team ready to play. Ben played well enough. The OLine continued to improve which is probably the most important thing if this team is to have any chance. Najee is for real. Receivers and TEs showed up. Defense played well, with Cam and TJ having monster games. Very happy overall on my end.Comment

It’s the whole fine line between idiot and genius. It was so dumb that if it worked, everyone would have thought it brilliant.
I personally hate most of the times Tomlin seems to listen to his gut.sigpicComment

I was also thinking since everyone and their mother knew how bad of a call it was that that could have made it a good call cause it was so unexpected.

Overall I'd go with not ever liking the fake FG, especially when you have a super reliable kicker such as Bos. The other issue for me in this scenario was it was 4th and 9. That's long. I could maybe listen to an argument that it wasn't a horrible call if it's 4th and 2. For me, 4th and long means zero justification for the call. Take the points.
Id also put a little of it on Boz. I seriously am surprised the coaches didn’t tell him to just get rid of the ball if you have an inkling of a chance you are gonna get hit. Ie don’t hold the ball like you’re young Ben trying to make a play.sigpicComment

I totally agree and think the 4th and long should have made it even less expected.

but IMO its hilarious to hear people say we were close enough for a FG. Of course we were close enough but that is why we tried a fake.
It wasn’t because we didnt have faith in Boz.
It was because we have faith in Boz from 55 and in so why not gamble?
At least that is what I think the logic was at the time.Steelers 27
