That's tough to watch there. I know he's had some dumb lines in the past, but I really found a lot of respect for him this year when he put Eric Kelly's name on his helmet, along with the stuff he's done for community / police relations these few years. And how he was always standing up for a teammate, the Rudolph/Garrett incident especially. Was really pulling for him. I know he's got too much pride in his game to play if he doesn't think he can still be a force though. Sucks man.

That's just stupid...I understand the cap ( a little ) But 2 things should be changed imo...
1) If a player is traded, The new team incurs all the salary ( you wanna trade or not ) The guy isn't on our team anymore thus, we shouldn't have anything to do with his salary ( unless you WANT to pay some, to rid yourself of a player )
2) Retirement...The player retired! There should be no cap issues/ dead money...You pay him until the day he retires then...You owe him ZERO/ HE RETIRED!
A) You cut a guy, you pay the piper...You gambled on a guy and YOU OVER- estimated his value...YOUR fault, pay up!Comment

The cap and how it works is part of the collective agreement with the NFLPA. It’s not changing anytime soon. That's just stupid...I understand the cap ( a little ) But 2 things should be changed imo...

You're an idiot. Because the folks who own and run the team don't agree with your obsession you post BS like this. This is why you have zero credability and are just seen as a bomb throwing radical here"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Yet you act the same way with posters you don’t agree with .......ironic.How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

They’ve already paid him that money. It was bonuses that were prorated over the time of the contract. If a guy gets a signing bonus of $25m over 5 years you pay him when he signs the contract, but that bonus counts $5m a year towards each year he plays for you. If you cut him in year 4 of the contract, that will cost you $10m against the cap (you have to discharge the bonus when they are no longer with the team, unless you do a June 1st designation). That's just stupid...I understand the cap ( a little ) But 2 things should be changed imo...

Also, when a player is traded the original team is still responsible for the bonus, but not the salary.
With Ben having a “roster” bonus this year, it’s money not paid out or prorated, so if you cut him/he retires before that it will save $15m. His salary is only $4m this year. Therefore, the dead cap hit of $22.25m is all from restructures/bonuses—money you already paid him.Comment

I hear what you are saying but the dead money is due to the guaranteed money in the contract. For Ben – if he is cut then his $4M 2021 salary as well as his $15 M roster bonus does not count against the salary cap as he’s no longer with the team – giving the Steelers $19 M towards the cap. But when the deal was signed he had $37.5 M in guaranteed signing bonus pro-rated across 2019, 2020, 2021. That’s $12.5 per year for 3 years. That's just stupid...I understand the cap ( a little ) But 2 things should be changed imo...

But the Steelers needed space in 2020 so they restructured Ben’s deal pushing money off into 20 and 21. You can’t just eliminate guaranteed money. The Steelers pushed the debt down the road knowing they would have to pay at some point. That’s the whole reason there is a salary cap.
In a trade the new team takes on the players salary (In Ben’s case that would be $4 Million salary + $15 signing bonus) but the Steelers would still be on the hook for $22.25 M (that’s the $$41.25 cap hit - $19 M).
Bottom line – when a team gives a player guaranteed money they are on the hook for that money against the salary cap even if they cut or trade the player. It’s why the contracts get so contentious about guaranteed money (See Le’Veon Bell – the Steelers offered him a contract that COULD have been worth about $77M but it didn’t have the guaranteed money he wanted).sigpicComment

He and his other nine buddies are on permanent ignore for a reason. Don’t help them by capturing their post . That’s why all nine are on ignore so I don’t see their garbage anymore. I pay them no mind.Comment

Yeah; I think he knows . It’s just frustrating because we are about to hit a real rough patch in transition of personnel and dead cap money.I hear what you are saying but the dead money is due to the guaranteed money in the contract. I’m not going to say I’m a Pouncey fan. The Free Hernandez and night club brawl he and his brother had just was a little much for me. I will say he was something to watch his first 3-4 playing. The past 3-4 have been mostly bad though. He didn’t deserve tickets to the Pro Bowl even if he paid for them.

I did feel bad for Ben though. When he was sitting there by himself on the bench he looked like a guy that had given everything he had and realized it wasn’t good enough. I don’t really like Ben the person much but I’ve always liked Ben the player.
Thanks to Maurkice and Ben for giving your best, even if that isn’t good enough anymore.Comment
