I don't think that it is so much about not winning the SB, but also why has that skillset not translated into more long-term success. You can name several uber athletic, run-first QBs who set the league on fire for a short period of time, but many either fizzled out or adjusted their game towards more traditional QB skills.

That being said, the season that LJ is putting together in that offense is spectacular, and very much worthy of all of the hype that he has received regarding MVP and SB contention.

Teams would run wildcat all day if it was truly about being a run first QB.

LJ is throwing TD’s. Long term success is hard for any QB in the league.

It’s rare for any QB to have long term success. Brady has it. Who else is winning SB’s every other year? Who else going on deep playoff runs almost every year?

The thing that makes me shake my head at the run first QB question is any QB who can run and pass is immediately credited as mobile when they have long term success.

LJ has saved jobs and anyone who knows someone from Baltimore will tell you the city is buzzing again after years of mediocre Flacco at QB.

Hell. Even though Kordell had a short run it was much more fun than the Bibby Brister and Malone years in the 80’s.

and please don’t think I’m challenging your post. Just adding on.

I think it's because elite athleticism isn't a skill that lasts long term.

He wouldn't have been the prototype in the old pro style offense, so the reason a guy like that hasn't won a Superbowl is because there hasn't been a guy like LJ running this type of offense. Closest thing was Mike Vick but Vick didn't run read option, Vick really just made his yards on drop back scrambles.

I'm still not convinced his style of QB play can make it in NFL long term. As someone on here said- 6-7 year window, as long as no serious injury. We'll see. Problem is, right now in div 1 college, there really aren't many great prototypical franchise qb's entering the draft. All mediocre- Trubisky, Wentz (big letdown so far), Goff- avg so far, on and on.

The issue is not how well you run. It's how well you PASS period.

I was a doubter because like many with his skillset he WAS an erratic passer. He is not erratic anymore.

Dude is now among the league leaders in PASSING efficiency. He is now looking like an elite THOWER.

That is all that matters, kid is legit.

                        Lamar Jackson 14/23 105
thats his stats for today. 3.9 yards per attempt before the last drive in the game (11-20 at that point)
that's his 4th/5th game with shoddy passing stats like that

he is far from an "elite" thrower.

meanwhile in the rain Garrapolo passed at nearly a 70% clip. where the weather should effect the better thrower.

after today i'm more confident they won't make it out of the AFC. 2nd time around belichick is going to eat that up.

just have to hope an NFC takes out the patsy's in the super bowl

I don't think Jackson is running any bootleg's, it's mostly read option and RPO's. With all due respect to James Harrison, I'm sure teams are trying to stop the run and hit Lamar Jackson, he isn't exactly telling you how to stop Jackson.
