Ruth please...I've been gone after by you and all the others ( first mind you) and called "hater" "racist" just because I don't think Tomlin is a great coach. Sugar has popped in from time to time with his jabs and that's what I was addressing.I have no idea where Sugar's "constant put downs" are. Can you provide specific examples?
On the other hand, you continuously calling other posters "Tomlin Ball Washers" is an obvious glaring put down.
Many folks on here are able to disagree with each other's opinions without resorting to put downs.
News flash...you aren't one of them.
And since I was gone after FIRST for my opinion, I made up that term in retaliation. I"m the wrong guy if you think that I can be put down and I'm not going to come back and say things as well.
Now......since that term seems bothers you so much, (because you keep bringing it up) I can shelve it if you wish. All you have to do is ask. But in return, you shelve the undercurrent racist implications you try and throw out there as well. We can do that. Like when you first communications with me in Comparisons to Crash (who did seem racist) as such.
See, you choose to say what you want, but you forget how you started with me when I didn't agree with you on Tomlin. And it's all good. But don't come in here crying when there's a term that seems to stick in your craw my friend. It's not a good look..if you know what I mean.
** I did not come in here gone after anybody; you and (you make up a term) came after me with the put downs and such because I didn't sing Tomlin's praises and I defended myself. Always will.Comment

Tomlin isn't perfect. He made mistakes just like all HC"s. The only coach that's clearly been better is BB. Any other coach that anyone thinks is better than Tomlin is debatable. The success team's had with Tomlin as HC already proves you are wrong.Comment

TBW = Tomlin BandWagon
Might be a less offensive moniker.....
Regardless, many of us are in the 'trust the org to make the right decision' wagon....Comment

It's interesting that you mention that. It makes me wonder how Tomlin would have fared had he not competed in an era with a man most regard as the GOAT?Comment

Yeah, success like Barry Switzer had immediatly after he took over for JJ huh? Your wrong; letting regular season wins mask all the post season flops.Comment

Had a Hall of Fame caliber QB for his entire run as H.C. in New Orleans and only managed 4 playoff wins in the last 8 years.
Hmmm...if the Steelers have NO CHANCE of ever winning another Super Bowl with Tomlin and his 3 playoff wins in the last 8 years, then the Saints must have VERY LITTLE CHANCE of ever winning another Super Bowl with Payton and his 4 playoff wins in the last 8 years.
Both of them should probably fired today if ownership knew what was good for them. Unless you are a Payton Ball Washer, of course.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Ernie, can you tell my why you think Payton is better? Is it because he calls plays on O and has the label of "offensive genius"?
I don't mean this as an attack.
I brought up Payton because I think he and Tomlin are pretty much the same (in almost every way I can think of).
In a results based league, they have produced essentially the same results.
Payton became Saints HC in 2006. Since being hired he has:
1 SB win [push]
1 SB appearance
3 Conference Championship Appearances [push]
3 first round byes [push]
Regular season record: 0.615 (118 - 74)
Playoff record: 0.571 (8 - 6)
He also has 1 full year suspension for bounty gate. Since he was hired a year earlier than Tomlin, that means that they have the same number of seasons as HC.
Tomlin became Steelers HC in 2007. Since being hired he has:
1 SB win [push]
2 SB appearances
3 Conference Championship Appearances [push]
3 first round byes [push]
Regular season record: 0.654 (125 - 66)
Playoff record: 0.533 (8 - 7)
Because Payton lost a year to suspension, they have the same number of seasons as HC. They have both had great QBs for all of their tenure (I'd probably argue that Brees is slightly better than Ben).
I think they are very similar in all the stats listed above.
- Tomlin is slightly better in the regular season (winning just over half a game more per season).
- They have the same number of playoff wins.
- Tomlin has more playoff loses, but has appeared in 1 more playoff game, and 1 more SB.
- In Maniac's arbitrary 8 year time frame:
' -- Tomlin has gone 3 - 5 in playoff games (1 bye and one Conference Championship loss).
' -- Payton has won 4 - 4 playoff games (1 bye and one Conference Championship loss).
Basically, Tomlin's results are as good or slightly better than Payton's except in playoff record. But, they have the same number of playoff wins so Tomlin's record is worse because he's played one more playoff game.
I think this is why having a benchmark for success is important. Without looking at the numbers, I figured that the Payton would have done better.
I think that's because I'm not emotionally invested in the Saints losses, so I don't remember them as vividly as losses by the Steelers .Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 01-23-2019, 03:38 PM.Comment
